The lady's greatest disco hits!,

This, unfortunately is the only collection of Claudja Barry's material that is widely available, and it's quite comprehensive. From her biggest hit "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes" to "Down and Counting", most of the biggest hits are here. The former peaking in the top 20 on the pop charts and both being huge hits on the dance charts.Aside from the aformentioned cuts, the sultry "Love For The Sake Of Love", the torch-funk of "Sweet Dynamite", the energetic "Work Me Over" and "Radio Action" are all classic dance cuts which demonstrate not only her vocal talent and versatility but the progression (not the death) of "disco" from the mid 70s to the early 80s. My only complaint is about the mastering. Although many of the original album reissues that I have from Hot Productions are well-done, the mastering [particularly] on "You Make Me Feel The Fire" is quite awful. It becomes extremely harsh and hissy half-way through the song (having the original 12" of this song, this obviously wasn't intentional). Also despite what they claim about the selections being mastered "From The Original Master Tapes" some seem to be taken from vinyl (ie. "Love For The Sake Of Love"). Although mostly the mastering is good, some of the flaws somewhat detract from the material. Judging from some of the things she herself has said in the past; despite her talent and the strong production of Jurgen S. Korduletsch - she never really seemed to achieve the pop crossover success that she aimed for. Regardless of that, there is a lot of great stuff on here. Despite some of the flaws, this is essentially a great collection. Fans of classic dance music would be wise to pick it up, since (unfortunately) many of the Hot Productions releases and reissues are gradually, one-by one going out of print. Hopefully someone out there will issue a remastered version of Claudja's greatest hits, as much of her work has gone out of print in recent years. Which is a pity because many of these songs, and many of her LPs are great examples of classic dance music.

Claudja's hottest hits are here, but sometimes, over a minute or more is shaved off the 12" versions. the 3 tracks I noted were my faves "Radio Action," "Boogie Woogie Dancin Shoes" and "Down and Counting". Hot Productions compiles great dance artists, but more often then not, they pull this stunt of editing tracks. Also, several of the times for the songs listed on the CD card do not match up with the actual times on the CD.

Claudja Barry is one the best vocals in Dance Club music. Her songs are warm and personal. I love all the songs especially "If I Do It To You", "Radio Action", "Work Me Over", & the sassy but classy "Down & Counting". It would be great if she started recording again, her voice she missed by many. Highly recommended!!!

Nice collection!,

These songs are the long versions rather than radio edits so I'm glad I found her biggest hit "Boogie Oogie Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes" in that form! If you like disco, get this album!

Almost all the hits...,

But, again, a collection that's incomplete. Where's the 12" version of "Boogie Tonight"? Or even the radio single? It was a substantial hit here in Canada, and she is supposedly Canadian. As an owner of both this CD and her original LP of seamless merged greatest hits, I'm disappointed that my favourite of Claudja's is not here in digital format... Good thing I still have my record player.

I ordered this CD primarily for "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes" and "Down and Counting". However, I was happily surprised that I knew most of the tracks such as "Take it Easy", "Love for the Sake of Love". I am telling you every track is excellent from "Sweet Dynamite"which is from the mid-seventies to "Down and Counting" which is from the late eighties. This definitely will take you back......!!!

There are certainly some great dancefloor memories here, but apart from better tracks like "Work Me Over" and the epic "Down and Counting", things tend to get a tad "cheesy" which may be a little hard for non disco fans to swallow. But otherwise if you are a fan of the artist or the style, it's not a bad collection.
