5.0 out of 5 stars Biz in Harmony, May 3, 2002
By
dwyane wilson (plymouth, mn United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Best of Cold Chillin' Goin' Off + The Biz Never Sleeps (2 CDs) (Audio CD)
These two cds were Biz at his best. Goin' Off featuring the vastly underrated TJ Swan and Biz Never Sleeps perfectly captures the Emmazaa-A-R-KIE reaching his zenith. My Man Rich, Biz in Harmony, Things Get Easier, Make the Music, Albee Square Mall, etc. There's probably only two songs maximum that didn't age well between the two LPs. I love all of the monikers that he calls himself on Never Sleeps. To this day I haven't been able to decipher them all. I'd remembered Goin' Off as a classic but for some reason had forgotten about the hidden treasure that was Never Sleeps. It somehow got overlooked during the all Gangsta or all Daisy age of hip-hop. I had to cop this one as soon as I spotted it. A hall of fame cd for a hall of fame artist.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great New Package From The Biz..., July 22, 2001
By
Zachary Wagner (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Best of Cold Chillin' Goin' Off + The Biz Never Sleeps (2 CDs) (Audio CD)
Long before The Biz was busting ryhmes and clowin' with the Beastie Boys, he was a solo Rap artist with an affinity for boogers, as is the case with the hilarious song "Pickin' Boogers". However, often The Biz comes off as an off key Cassanova with "Just A Friend". Unfortunately, his music stylings have often been taken as a joke, which obstructs the listener from discovering the beauty in his prose. This package (I call it that because it contains no new material but two albums in one case) feature's The Biz's 1989 release "Biz Never Sleeps" which is aptly titled because the ryhmes flow together and create a unified album. This package should get a 5 just for Biz Never Sleeps, but Goin Off drags it down a little more as this diamond in the rough was not quite polished to perfection.

All and all I recommend this CD to all the old schoolers, and MCs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody Beats The Biz, September 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Cold Chillin' Goin' Off + The Biz Never Sleeps (2 CDs) (Audio CD)
This is a great find! Biz Markie is the best Old-School rapper who obviously influenced Biggie Smalls, the best rapper since The Biz. If you are a lyricist looking for inspiration, look no further. Biz rymes vague words to express himself, not worring about everything ryming perfectly and focusing on the flow of things. This is a breath of fresh air in today's rap world of Cash Money, DMX, "P Diddy", and others. Biz sings about simpler things and has fun with it. The best CD next to The Roots' "Do You Want More?"

Who else can rhyme about takin' a dump? Who else can say "On a crack mission, no type of ambition, make blunts disappear betta than a magician?"

Biz is hands-down the best rapper to ever live. "up ya nose wit a rubba hose and everybody knows that ya style is olda than my gramma's clothes."

Unbe-freakin-lievable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give It Up For The Diabolical MC: Biz Markie!, January 13, 2007
By
This review is from: The Best of Cold Chillin' Goin' Off + The Biz Never Sleeps (2 CDs) (Audio CD)
All self-respecting MC's should own a copy of these 2 east coast hip hop staples. Take listen to any notable hip hop or r & b release in the 90's and you'll hear snippets of this classic, specifically Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest and Bad Boy releases. Vapors is the first lesson I ever learned about haters and when you make the come up. Like 2pac said: " A lot of us fatherless boys listened to the rappers of our day as father figures." Pac named LL, Kane, and Cube as his father figures. Biz Markie certainly goes on that list as well.
