Aussie's best kept secret...you MUST get this CD!,

I lived in Australia from 90-97, and had never heard of Chisel till I moved there. And what a pleasant shock it was when I found myself hearing this very CD (my first taste o'Chisel) and singing/stomping along on the first 'spin'. This band is the essence of Oz - raw power and emotion with simply great tunes to back them. Why this band never made it HUGE in the US is beyond me...but heck, forget that and get this CD for an unprecedented treat GREAT music (esp for parties). Barnesy and Mossy are one of the best songwriting teams ever! I have since gone back and bought everything this band has done to make sure I didn't 'miss a beat'!

A classic rager.,

As a New Zealander I find this hard to say...but Cold Chisel is the best band to come out of Australasia. I have a travel tape of songs when I'm backpacking overseas and Chisel have several tracks, all of which are from here. The band is difficult to describe - not-quite-hard rock or heavy-metal, not-quite-blues. The best I can do is suggest - imagine if of Chuck Berry and Ray Charles met The Who on an Australian beach? Something almost like that. Lyrically the band is VERY Australian: cheerfully blunt, at times to the point of crudeness. That's offset by an often an acute intelligence and sensitivity in the lyrics, but this is disguised, at times heavily so (again, VERY Australian). All in all, a brilliant, feet on the ground rock album. Great for parties.

America! BUY THIS ALBUM!,

A complete travesty of justice that Cold Chisel never achieved international stardom. They were one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever, and are Australia's best kept secret. How else does one describe music that is so ingrained in one's society and culture that it performs the function of lullaby, anthem and catechism simultaneously? Buy this album, and you will realise why the so-called 'legends' of rock should be mere footnotes to the story of Cold Chisel.

Compilation of one of the best Australian rock bands,

For those of us who lived in Australia when Cold Chisel were together, no other band captured the raw edge of living in a culture undergoing major structural changes. In the 1970s and 1980s, things were hard if you weren't at least middle class: Cold Chisel told how it was if you were young and lost, a Vietnam vet, outside the system, or just trapped where you couldn't find a way out. If you read Barry Jones' "Sleepers, Wake", you will see a study of the social and economic changes the country went through. Cold Chisel sings of how it felt to live through them.

Cold Chisel (Best of),

I don't understand why Cold Chisel didn't make it HUGE in the US. I moved to Minnesota in September 1999 and play ALL my Aussie CDs when I have friends over. ALL of them have commented on my Chisel collection and have made attempts to find/buy CDs in stores. They can only find them online but they are buying them and enjoying the music ... and why shouldn't they ... Cold Chisel ROCKS! yeah for the aussies!

This is the album we had to have...,

The perfect album to get drunk and sing along to. The sad fact is that much of Australia's youth today does not even know the words to Khe Sanh. I am a teenage girl so I know. This shocking situation must be remedied...I recommend mass distribution of "Chisel (Best of)". This CD contains many of the hits of one of Australia's most popular bands of the 70s and 80s. Unlike many of their contemporaries, Chisel's songs have stood the test of time and are still heard daily on the radio. As Molly Meldrum would say, do yourself a favour. Buy this album! My only criticism is that it doesn't include "Ita", one of my fave Chisel songs. You'll have to pick up "East" for that classic.

What can I say - Australia on a disc,

Words cannot describe what an impact this music has on me as I grew up through the 70's and 80's in Melbourne. Now I don't, so this type of music takes me back to those days. "Flame Trees" makes me cry and "Khe Sanh" makes me sing. Simply brilliant doesn't say enough for this band and this album. Not only is it good memories, it stands as great music as well.

One of the best bands to come from Australia in the 80's this is a overall great CD with their best known songs before they split up. Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss continued on with solo success and both covered the songs of Cold Chisel of which there are some great solo versions.
