Simple arrangements & Great selection of songs,

This review is from: The Best of Coldplay for Easy Piano: Updated Edition (Paperback)
12 Coldplay songs from the albums "Parachutes" and "A Rush of Blood to the Head".
I've only had a couple of years of piano lessons (and that was years ago) and I bought this book to help me get back into playing. The arrangements are easy (but no, not beginner), and don't take much practise before you're sounding pretty good! Includes the guitar chords. The songs are: (1) Amsterdam (2) Clocks (3) Don't Panic (4) Everything's Not Lost (5) Green Eyes (6) In My Place (7) Rush of Blood (8) The Scientist (9) Sparks (10) Trouble (11) A Warning Sign (12) Yellow The book itself is a slim softcover book with a shiny cover. It is bound by three staples, and the pages fall flat once pressed down - so its fine on a music/piano stand. Note - This describes the the 2003 edition which I was sent initially (in error). So check that you were sent the right edition! The 2004 edition is bound, so doesn't lie flat as well as the 1st Ed but it includes a 13th song: "Fix You" from "X&Y"

Skip the "Easy" version and get the original music,

I bought this for my students who are truly beginners so that they would have some goal music. As noted, it is not for beginners. I don't think the time signatures or keys are difficult; the rhythm is difficult because it follows the notes as Chris Martin sings them. This means it's lots of eighth and sixteenth notes and dotted notes and ties. I got A Rush of Blood to the Head at the same time. This original music doesn't have the melody, it is meant to to be played and sung at the same time. It's only slightly more difficult, so I recommend getting A Rush of Blood to the Head instead of this "Easy" piano book. It's more enjoyable to play and sounds better too.

A good find....but,

It's a great book for intermediate players. I wouldn't exactly call it "easy piano." While the notes are easy to read and not complicated, the key signatures are what make the songs difficult. Brush up on those before trying out this book!!

Not So Easy,

This review is from: The Best of Coldplay for Easy Piano: Updated Edition (Paperback)
This isn't for a beginner or an advanced beginner. By "easy" is meant that it is comparable to The Library of Easy Piano Classics ISBN 0-82556-1284-5.
If you're not quite ready for this level I'd still order it and the more advanced Coldplay, A Rush of Blood to the Head, because these punk rock music books are here today and gone tomorrow. This is probably not going to be available by the time you're ready.

I'm surprised that none of the other reviews mentioned the fact that these "arrangements" are very different from the originals. The melody (vocals) is in the right-hand treble clef and simple base notes in the left. These are not really the chords that are played by the band, and it is virtually impossible to sing along with what is written, unless you like singing exactly the same thing your right hand is playing. And there's not enough of a chord in the left hand to fill it out if you just drop the right and sing it. I'm fairly disappointed in this. Maybe if all you're looking for is a similar sounding arrangement and don't plan to sing, then this may be the book for you.

I got this book for Christmas last year, and at this point I can play every song easily. This is good and bad. I've only taken piano for two years and found this book fairly easy. COLDPLAY is my favorite band, and their music is absolutely wonderful, but this book simplifies the songs down a bit. I eventually got bored of the simple notes that didn't impress anyone and started to change it up. This book is easy to out grow if you are still advancing in your playing. However, my friends, who don't have much experience on the piano, enjoy playing these songs. I suggest buying this if you are a beginner. But if you want more of a challenge that sounds like the actual songs, try somewhere else.

My daughter is a beginner piano player, and received this book as a gift from her Dad. She is working on Clocks to play at her piano recital. There are varied degrees of difficulty in the book, and she has been having fun looking at and reviewing the book with her piano teacher. If you love Coldplay you will love the book!

I don't have a lot of piano experience, however, I could play easily with this book. It is very easy to understand. A great use to beginning piano players.

This is the second ColdPlay book I have, the first one being "A Rush of Blood to the Head". Comparing "Clocks" especially was interesting. I found their version a little tougher in some ways, and it helped me learn the piece in a new way. A very good book with well developed and easy to read sheet music.

Buy it if you like Coldplay!,
This review is from: The Best of Coldplay for Easy Piano: Updated Edition (Paperback)
Bought this for my son who is a big Coldplay fan and he is really enjoying it. He's an intermediate/advanced piano player and found the songs easy to play and very true
to the actual arrangements of the songs. |
