5.0 out of 5 stars Two fun workouts
These are two of my favorite step workouts for days when I want a good workout in a short time. Kendall's Fat Blaster workout is especially lively and motivating: the live drums and energetic atmosphere, and Kendall's warmly encouraging manner, make this workout ideal for getting me off the couch to have some fun. 3.0 out of 5 stars FAT BLASTER is GREAT.... STEP&SWEAT not so good.
I used to be a member of a gym where Kendall, the instructor for the Fat Blaster segment, worked. He was always motivating, nice to people but really not a good live instructor. He tended to do the same moves over and over and to put together routines that had tricky segways to the next move. Well I have to give him high marks for this DVD because it's energetic and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Two fun workouts, July 18, 2001
This review is from: The Best of Crunch - Step (DVD)
These are two of my favorite step workouts for days when I want a good workout in a short time. Kendall's Fat Blaster workout is especially lively and motivating: the live drums and energetic atmosphere, and Kendall's warmly encouraging manner, make this workout ideal for getting me off the couch to have some fun. The Step and Sweat workout is more laid-back, but still has enough unusual moves to make it enjoyable, and even though the class is much smaller, the exercisers look like they're having a lot of fun--which helps *me* have fun as well. This is a great investment if you're an intermediate-level stepper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upbeat exercise, January 16, 2001
This review is from: The Best of Crunch - Step (DVD)
This DVD is excellent if you like upbeat music and a good sweat. The moves are easy to learn and follow. You will get a good work out in 30 minutes. You can do this workout high impact or low impact. It's a fun way to exercise.

I used to be a member of a gym where Kendall, the instructor for the Fat Blaster segment, worked. He was always motivating, nice to people but really not a good live instructor. He tended to do the same moves over and over and to put together routines that had tricky segways to the next move. Well I have to give him high marks for this DVD because it's energetic and fun. I think he has found his calling and there are only a couple of times where he works one side more than the other. Not enough to get worked up about. It's short, 22 minutes not counting the warmup and cool down. Towards the end he does a sort of latin routine which is not very good a maintaining a high cardio level. In effect you start to cool down before the cool down. In order to keep my heart rate up where I want it prior to the cool down I just put in some of my own moves. I would give this DVD 4 stars if he was the only one but the other one...

The Step&Sweat DVD is a disaster. I think most of the moves are too silly to be of value especially those just starting out. Not enough cueing and not fun. I give it 2 stars. The instructor seems nice enough but if you don't want to trip over your own feet stick with Kendall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fat Blaster Is Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, October 18, 2005

What I have learnt from walking is that good "music" causes me to push myself further than I would regularly go because I am not thinking about the walk itself. With this in mind, I set out to find a "Step" aerobics DVD that would have the same effect on me, and this is IT. The music is excellent and funky. There is one guy playing drums and at times switching to the bongos (I think that is want you call them) live. The lighting of the set is bright and pleasing to look at. I have also learnt that these things can matter.

There are two different workouts on this DVD with two different instructors; I would like to make it clear that I am talking about "Fat Blaster." Fat Blaster has no room for boredom in it. Once you learn the steps, you will enjoy it with its motivating music (played on surround sound, it is a wonderful). The instructor is male and fun. His cueing is good, but you must listen to him. I found myself so much into the music that I forgot to listen to him and missed a few steps.

If you want a motivating Step aerobics DVD, Fat Blasters is it. This workout alone is worth the price of the DVD even though there are two workouts.

4.0 out of 5 stars CONCENTRATE ON KENDALL, February 1, 2004

This review is from: The Best of Crunch - Step (DVD)
This video is "two in one". The first part has live drums, lots of energy, good instruction, and is really a lot of fun. You don't even have to be in the mood to excercise, but if you just put the DVD in and just LISTEN to the music in the first part, it will motivate you to get moving. Then, you'll be done in no time. The second part is so boring, I don't even attempt it anymore. It reminds me of when step aerobics just started..no umph!! Just the overall look of the set was depressing also--think early 80's. Yuck. It pales miserably in comparison to Kendall's routine. His routine fuses dance and the excercise aspect together (and the nice set doesn't hurt, either). So, the four stars is basically for the first routine on the DVD. I would give the second one a big fat ZERO -- unless you like to sleep during your workout. The two really are like night and day, and I don't understand why Crunch put those two together. Overall, I'm still glad I have the video, but I wish I could have just gotten Kendall's routine for half the price I paid for the whole thing.

As an aerobics teacher, I found the step routine to be fun and challenging. My students loved the dance aspect and I enjoyed teaching it.

I love Kendell Hogan..For one he gives off that best energy when he does his workout...the salsa music will keep you motivated..this a beginner's workout...If he had more cardio dvd's I would buy them....I also have his Crunch: Total Resulpt and it is a very good toning for women especially if you are just starting out with weights...I would definitely recommend both of Kendell's dvds

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but a little tricky, August 1, 2005

You do get a good, quick workout with both of these but know how to use a step before trying. I found the steps to be a bit complicated. And since you're concentrating on the steps, you tend to go slower at first. After a few sessions, the workout was better and felt great. So, be patient.

I've been doing step at my health club for a while and have been disappointed in the level of most step videos, just too boring. This is a good one, with enough going on to keep you going. But, I hate the fact that you have to fastforward through the ad beginning of the video.

I didn't get a chance to really enjoy the Step and Sweat workout because the instructor moved through the moves so fast. Not being able to follow the instructor was very frustrating. I about wanted to give up on the whole ordeal. Plus, the workout group looked to fake for my taste. If step aerobics is not something you do all the time, I recommend another tape. I didn't even bother with the Fat Blaster because it is supposed to be at a higher tempo. Recommended for more advanced steppers.
