GARNET MIMMS (b 1933) should be a household name, on the order of of Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, etc. Give these ballads a bullet, already! Only "Cry Baby" hit number one, but these songs all should have charted higher. Flavors of strollin, gospel, doo woop -- " Grittier than Motown, but not as down-home as Stax," says Richie Unterberger over at allmusic.com. Every song should have been rated in the top 20. One of the original popular appeal soul artists, it's strange Mimms never achieved the prominence of the Sam Cooke or Jerry Butler. The original "Cry Baby" definitely outshines the Janis Joplin version.

Garnet Mimms does a great job exposing his soul in his music. It's a rich offering that relaxes your inner self and brings you to an atmosphere of peace. Highly Recommended.
