4.0 out of 5 stars If you like pop-minded house music, this disc is for you.
Crystal Waters first appeared on the scene in 1991 with the massive cross-over hit "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)", which smartly opens this set. Following suit is the 1994 smash hit "100% Pure Love". And then comes "Say...If You Feel Alright", her inclusion to the 1996 compilation "NBA at 50". These being her three biggest hits,...

These being her three biggest hits, it was not (in my opinion) a wise move to have all three of them open the disc. The 4th track "In De Ghetto" - was not actually a Crystal Waters release, it's a David Morales & The Badyard Club release with Crystal doing some vocals. "Makin' Happy" is shown here in the Steve "Silk" Hurley 12" Mix - her follow-up to "Gypsy Woman" did not have the same radio appeal, but was a club hit nonetheless. A couple of these tracks have no reason to be on this disc ("Spin Me, & "Ghetto Day" come to mind), for they were never released as commercial singles. But you do get the fabulous "Boy From Ipanema", and three different versions of "Gypsy Woman" - the Radio Edit, the "Strip To The Bone Mix", and a bonus 1998 remix - hidden track... Well worth the price, because you don't have to buy the albums, which are pretty droll except for the hits...What we need now, is a Crystal Waters remix album....

4.0 out of 5 stars Crystal Waters is The 90's Club Music Diva, June 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best Of Crystal Waters (Audio CD)
Clublands foremost diva releases her collection of floorburning classics. Her style is unmistakable, her hooks unresistable and her voice undeniably infectuous. Starting with her first hits "Gypsy Woman" and "100% Pure Love"to her latest "Say ... If You Feel Alright". plus her unreleased club classics like "In The Getto" A must for club goers and diehard dance music fans everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't quite get 5 stars, January 4, 2003

This review is from: The Best Of Crystal Waters (Audio CD)
House diva Crystal Waters gives us basically a trip down memory lane with this greatest hits compilation. You get 3 versions of "Gypsy Woman"(the original version, the 'Strip to the Bone Mix', and a special 1998 remix; why it wasn't put as a separate track, I don't know.). You also get "100% Pure Love", "Just A Freak"(all three were her biggest hits), "Relax", "Say...If You Feel Alright" (not as big, but still memorable), some of her not-so-great releases, and even some unreleased tracks ("Spin Me", "The Boy From Ipanema"). Now after all of that, there still feels like something is missing. First of all, her radio mix of "100% Pure Love" was much better, second of all, the remix of "Makin' Happy" is just too long. Third of all, one of her releases ("What I Need") isn't even on the CD, and that was a tight song. Those are the only things that keep me from giving the Cd 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits from Miss Waters, June 3, 2002
By
This review is from: The Best Of Crystal Waters (Audio CD)
This solid collection from Baltimore's own Crystal Waters compiles her hits duirng the 1990's. Never mind that she lacked a great voice: what mattered were the slammin' house BEATS, provided by Maryland-based DJs the Basement Boys. It's tempting to dismiss Miss Waters as a one-hit-wonder, but the truth of the matter is, she released a string of radio/club hits like "Makin' Happy," "Gypsy Woman," "100% Pure Love," and so forth. Crystal Waters was one of the few club/dance divas that mattered, and this CD will make a nice addition to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully a remastered greatest hits will come, November 1, 2005
This review is from: The Best Of Crystal Waters (Audio CD)
Hopefully, Crystal Waters Greatest Hits will be re-released one day in a remastered edition. These tracks sound "quiet" and not quite as amplified as they could be when played in a MP3 player like an IPOD. The good songs are here. Crystal is best known for her hit "Gypsy Woman," but songs like "Surprise" and "Good Lovin'" were fan favorites. It's a nice set list and as mentioned it deserves the remaster treatement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just try NOT to dance when you listen to this album, October 21, 2002

Crystal Waters has a great voice and great producers to have made such a wonderful body of work that is all highlighted on this Greatest Hits album.

The album gets you dancing and singing for over an hour, all the while, broadening all musical horizons. She creates great songs for the dancing fool and making the sad happy again. These songs lift up the weary soul. Just try and NOT dance and sing when you listen to this album. It's lots of fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crystal Waters shows what she's been up to, September 11, 1998

This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Hard to believe, but it has already been seven years since Crystal Waters got the world dancing to "la da dee". After that debut she has trouble coming up with something good for a while: her debut album was mediocre and immediate follow up singles (including an unnecessary Megamix) didn't chart as well. However, in 1994 she unexpectedly returned with the amazing groove "100 % Pure Love" and a very good second album. In 1997 she tried it again with an even better release but over here it went by unnoticed. And now there is her "best of" collection. Crystal has grown as an artist. Although the tracklisting is not chronologically, you see the lady developing herself as an artist and daring to go through different styles, even though the majority of the songs on this album are dance songs. It includes her big international hits, apart from the before mentioned among them are "Say... If You Feel Alright", "In De Ghetto" and "Relax". You also find the nice silliness of "Makin' Happy" and a very good cover version of "The Boy From Ipenama". "The Best Of Crystal Waters" is a nice collection and a great introduction to those who never have faced the dance floor brilliance of Crystal and her Basement Boys. Not all songs should be on here, e.g. "Surprise" and the dull "Twisted", but on the whole she offers a lot of fun. She can't sing, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dance and Dance again ladadeeladadow, March 5, 2007
This review is from: The Best Of Crystal Waters (Audio CD)
For awhile in the 90's it looked like Crystal Waters was set to take over from Donna Summer as 'Queen of Dance' - and this compilation of her hits bears testimony to her undisputable knack for catchy lyrics and hooks bound to make you move your feet. Undoubtedly her biggest hit is the almost 'socially aware' Gypsey Woman (She's Homeless) and there are two additional remixes included here; The Stripped to the Bone Mix, and the awesome 1998 remix. Other standout tracks include Just A Freak, Making Happy The Boy From Ipanema, and 100% Pure Love. Waters has a good voice but unfortunately after awhile it becomes monotonous and a bit same. But crank up the volume, turn up the bass and dance and dance again.
