4.0 out of 5 stars A must for those of us old enough to remember
You've probably forgotten how many hits Dave Mason had. They're all great and this is an unexpected choice to play for people. For a lot of us, it takes us back. For the rest it's just good music like you don't hear much anymore.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dave's Still Out There, Playing His Guitar!
Once hugely influential, Dave Mason is something of a footnote now -- but he's still out there, playing his guitar in small clubs (really small!) and this cd is a good souvenir of the show! While Stevie Winwood is the most popular player from Traffic, Dave is just as talented. This cd shows him to be quite a soulful singer -- his take on "Will You Still Love Me...

Once hugely influential, Dave Mason is something of a footnote now -- but he's still out there, playing his guitar in small clubs (really small!) and this cd is a good souvenir of the show! While Stevie Winwood is the most popular player from Traffic, Dave is just as talented. This cd shows him to be quite a soulful singer -- his take on "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is very affecting. His acoustic side is on display on "We Just Disagree," probably his best solo song and biggest hit. A couple of live favorites - "Feelin' Alright" and "Only You Know and I Know" -- recall the hit versions by Joe Cocker and the long-lost and lamented duo Delaney and Bonnie while still showing off Dave's fiery guitar playing. The highlight is probably Dave's blistering "All Along The Watchtower," which brings to mind Dave's place in the pantheon of 1960s rockers -- he played with Hendrix on the "Electric Lady" take of this song. The main quibble with this collection is the absence of anything from Dave's heartfelt duets with Cass Elliot, recorded shortly before that diva's untimely death and now hard to find on disc! Look for Dave and his red guitar in a bar near you -- he's still got the chops to rock!

4.0 out of 5 stars anonymous, February 20, 2005

no matter what dave mason does musically, he does it well. this is a cd that every classic rock collector probably owns and dave mason should be very proud of. "you and i just disagree"(a hit in the '70s)and "show me some affection," are personal favorites. if your musical tastes run more toward classic or soft rock then i think you'll be happy with this as an addition to your cd collection. i like everything dave mason has ever recorded but i especially like this compilation. you might become a fan after you listen to it as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars "The Best of Dave Mason" ???, November 12, 2011
This review is from: The Best Of Dave Mason (Audio CD)
How can they possibly call it "The Best of Dave Mason"? It's missing "Look at you, Look at me", without a doubt one of the best guitar solos of all time. Let them recycle the plastic on this one and get the "Definitive Collection" or "Alone Together", the original album it's on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underappreciated, June 29, 2008
This review is from: The Best Of Dave Mason (Audio CD)
I don't know if Dave Mason is under-rated, certainly those who know of him appreciate his guitar skills and his musicality, but it seems like he peaked at just the wrong time - too late to be thought of along side the stars who came to prominence in the 60's and also, right when rock and pop music was starting to feature the star of the moment instead of the reliable greats. (And thus, the descent of pop, if not rock in general, into the wasteland that was the 80's "rock" scene and that permitted bogus permeations from the non-quality rap and hip hop to the Brittany Spears genre of non-music to flourish - I mean, can you blame these artists who grew up listening to the shlock of 80's "rock" for the nonsense that became popular music in teh 90's??) So he became Clapton "lite" or Winwood without the pop pizzazz, which is a shame. So, my question for reviewers is whether this is the definitive one-CD collection for Dave, or do I go with another of the anthologies? Any suggestions appreciated !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Dave Mason music, February 26, 2008
This review is from: The Best Of Dave Mason (Audio CD)
This CD brought back some great emotions of that time. I was actually in the studio, this past weekend, doing my own rendition of "We Just Disagree". A great way to spend part of an evening, listening to this CD, with a glass of wine and your significant other.

5.0 out of 5 stars This "Best Of" Collection deserves a Digitally Remastered version for sure!, February 13, 2008
This review is from: The Best Of Dave Mason (Audio CD)
This CD is certainly for pretty "old" Rock listeners... I mean, 'old' enough to remember that there used to be very solid, talented British Rock musicians that continued the same roots of Beatles, Byrds, Stones, Who, Zepp, and others.

Dave Mason is one of those talented musicians. Almost all of his best Hits are included in this compilation. And for sure, this "Best Of" collection, deserves to have a Digitally Remastered version! Period!
