Nothing New In This Anthology,
By
This review is from: Best of David Lanz (Audio CD)
I first fell under the spell of David Lanz's new age piano stylings when I purchased 1996's SACRED ROADS. At that time Lanz had already been recording for more than a decade. In 2002 I picked up the 2-disc anthology ROMANTIC: THE ULTIMATE DAVID LANZ NARADA COLLECTION. At 27 tracks and two hours of music, it was a nearly flawless compilation. Three years later Narada lifts ten tracks from that album and calls it BEST OF. The music is, of course, excellent; but it's nowhere near as complete--or satisfying--as ROMANTIC. Not only is the 2-disc collection a better buy, it makes BEST OF unnecessary.

Intricate, Relaxing, Long-Lasting Collection,

A friend gave me The Best of David Lanz for my birthday several years ago, and even now I listen to this album all the way through at least once a week. I listen over dinner, while working, in the car; it's a fantastic compilation of intricate, relaxing music.
I later purchased David Lanz's two-disc Romantic collection, which has many of the same tracks. This album soundly outperforms the Romantic collection by keeping only the truly incredible pieces and ordering the tracks into a smoothly flowing whole.

I am not a music expert and I had never heard of David Lanz before this CD showed up in my collection recently. I honestly don't know from whence it came, but I have played it over a hundred times since. I set it on repeat and play it all day.
I am a writer, and I need soothing, non-intrusive music to write to. I prefer piano and so when I listened to this one for the first time, I was blown away by the 'feel' of the music. It is almost spiritual the way it carries me along, peridocially lifting me at the same time. A Whiter Shade of Pale is a nice addition to the classic line-up. I find that this music stays with me all day, long after I've shut off the CD and left my writing desk. I hope you enjoy it as well. Ellen C Maze, author Unique Vampire Fiction for Today's Reader
