We bought this book for our second trip to the Canadian Rockies. If you are planning to make a tour around the Canadian Rockies and like to see only the very best hikes (still enough hikes you can't complete even if you would spend a month in the Rockies) then this is your book. Nicely done is the way they keep the hike description brief but spot on, the exact information you are looking for without having to read too much.

Another nice feature is the way they described the main decision points during the hike (junctions, etc) in combination with a numbering system in the detailed maps. Each hike includes its own map and it is the first book I see that has really done a great job to ensure you always know where you are. The book is well designed with marvelous pictures. For each hike you can find all necessary key information such as total hiking time, distance, elevation gain, difficulty rating, etc. For some hikes they added an elevation profile graph, which I truly like as you can see in a glance at which point the hike might be challenging in terms of going up and down.

So in short, with this book in the backpack, just enjoy your hikes and see the best of the Canadian Rockies.

An excellent guide book. Being from Houston it's not every day that my partner and I are able to pop up to the Canadian Rockies. I am an obsessive planner when it comes to making an itinerary for our vacations and attempting to plan our first trip to this area seemed like an impossible task with endless options of what to see. This book has really helped me narrow down what trails we need to hit to make the most of our limited amount of time. I had previously purchased Brian Patton and Bart Robinson's Canadian Rockies Trail Guide. While it is well written and provides detailed trail descriptions, the sheer volume of trails with no ranking or organization of "must do/don't waste your time" left me completely overwhelmed. While sadly my partner and I won't have the time to hit up all the trails in Tim Jensen's book (we are taking 3 days to backpack the Berg Lake Trail, only partially covered in this book) I feel confident that the rest of our time will be filled with only the best of the best hikes. Now I'm just crossing my fingers I can get us a reservation up to Lake O'Hara...

Really accurate description of the hikes, we did several and loved them all. Excellent recommendations for all difficulty levels. Deduct one star because the book started to fall apart the first time I used it - very poor binding. Good if you want to remove pages but not if you want to keep the book for future use. Otherwise it's the perfect companion for a week in the Canadian Rockies.
