Best of The Best Of,
By
This review is from: Best of Dean Martin (Audio CD)
This is an excellent compilation of songs that kept Dean in our hearts and in our thoughts. These are the songs that most everyone will associate Dean Martin with. When Dean's name is brought into a conversation you immediately start to hum to yourself songs like "That's Amore", "Memories Are Made of This", "Return To Me", and the unfogetable "Volare". If you remember one or two of these tunes, and I'm very sure you, maybe even more, this compilation is the one to get. It'll even give you a taste of some of the classic Italian songs Dean recorded during his career. He just always seemed so relaxed whether he was singing or acting. I've been a very big fan of Deans' for years and a very big record collector as well and this compilation is now part of my collection.

Great CD!,
This review is from: Best of Dean Martin (Audio CD)
I like Dean Martin and this is a great CD that has a lot of fantastic songs, That's Amore, Volare, Standing On The Corner, You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You, etc, and I recommend this CD and also That's Amore: The Best of Dan Martin which I actually like better because it has 20 songs and this has just 12 songs but I still like this CD.

Great to learn what Dean Martin is all about.,

This CD consists of Dean Martin's best songs and is a very good way to learn what Dino is all about. Listen to "That's Amore", "Volare" and my personal favorite "Sway", and my prediction is that you will fall in love with Dean (Dean's voice). For old time fans, I would recommend you to buy the multi-CD or more complete version (more songs) like "The Essential Dean Martin" or "That's Amore" etc.

A Nice "Mini" Overview Of Dean's Career,

Short & Sweet! This cd serves as a fine introduction for new fans of the Dean as well as a nifty collection of hits for longtime enthusiasts. While the song selection is srong, I would have liked to have seen Until The Real Thing Comes Along, Just In Time, Ain't That A Kick In The Head and Canadian Sunset included here as well, as these are among Dino's all-time best.Regardless, this is an excellent compilation and a terrific reminder of why this performer remains so well-loved!

I grew up listening to Dino and he's the first man besides my Dad that I was in love with....The Dean Martin show and the Golddiggers were a part of our life... I 'm so glad Mom and Dad loved him and still do. I truly feel sorry for anyone who doesn't know his talent. While Frank was gifted and I enjoy his music Dean had a better voice.

"Memories are made of this".,

This seems to be a budget collection of sorts, but as far as song selection goes, all the big ones are on here. It's roughly the same as his other "hits" discs. "That's Amore", "Return to Me", and "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" are all on here, as well as nine others. The first half of this is classic Dean. It's such a refreshing thing to put on after listening to alot of the junk on the radio. I would say if there's one thing you need with your next martini, it's this cd. It will go great with your "Frank" and "Tony" cd's too.

The Best of Dean Martin must have been a really good compilation when it first came out and CDs were relatively new; but with time there have been other, much more comprehensive single CD compilations and box sets that truly give us so much more from this dynamic and unforgettable entertainer. However, what we do get here is nothing but the best material; and Dean is in excellent form throughout the album. The quality of the sound is excellent and I like that artwork, too.
There isn't a dud in the bunch on this album. "Memories Are Made of This" starts the CD with a wonderful number; Dean massages these lyrics as only he could and he never lets go of a single superfluous note! The backup chorus is fine but Dean never really needed it; his talent always carried him through. "That's Amore" is a terrific song and that accordion adds to the musical arrangement very nicely; and listen for Dean to out do even himself on songs like "Return to Me;" "Standing on the Corner" with complex temp and key changes that Dean handles like the pro he always was; "You Belong to Me" which gets the royal treatment from Dean--and those strings are beautiful; and the swinging "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" that Dean Martin performs with panache, to say the least. "Sway" has a fine beat to it that is still perfect for dancing with your sweetheart late at night in your living room; this music is all THAT good! "Innamorata" is easy on the ear; and I really like how Dean sings "Volare" without ever skipping a beat! The music that accompanies Dean on "Volare" fits in perfectly with his vocals, too. "Angel Baby" is very well done and there's yet another gem in the very elegant "On an Evening in Roma (Sott'er Celo de Roma)." The album ends with Dean Martin performing a sublime rendition of "I'll Always Love You (Day After Day)." Dean Martin was remarkably gifted; and we are all so much better off for his having shared his talents with us. This may not be the most comprehensive "best of" CD out there but it is a budget priced CD and that makes it good for people watching their pennies as well as people just getting acquainted with Dean who want a smaller sampling of his amazing talent before moving on to more substantial collections.

Dino sure could croon,

yes, this is a "budget" CD, but there are some great selections here. This CD features Dino "crooning" as opposed to "swinging". For that I would suggest you pick up a copy of "Swinging With Dino", which has more big band type arrangments to accompany him. But this one has songs like "That's Amore", "Volare", "Sway", and "Standing On The Corner". If you get both of them, I think you will have a good overview of his music, the only cut on both of them is "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You". This guy knew how to sing and carry a tune.

I've been looking for a Dean Martin collection for a while. Most were way overpriced, but Amazon beat everyone by a lot. This by no means includes all of Dean's best, but for the price, I love it!
