Book Description

Decorative Painting July 1998
A dazzling collection of today's most exceptional decorative painting. This book presents artists with unique ideas for painting on all surfaces.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This book elevates the craft of decorative painting to its next logical level. Not just a manual on how to paint cute animals on slate, it gathers the work of more than 100 decorative painters whose style and commitment is much more sophisticated than the norm. Here, wooden boxes, cupboards, vases, and plates are adorned with accomplished florals, portraits, still lives, and landscapes, in a variety of media. Highly recommended for advanced decorative artists; the novice should begin with something like Gretchen Cagle's Decorative Painting Keepsakes (LJ 11/15/97).

5.0 out of 5 stars A visual anthology of decorative painting treasures., October 27, 1999

This delightful compilation of dozens of the world's best decorative artists should be in every up-and-coming painter's library. From rosemaling to classic still life, this book has excellent examples of just about every aspect of decorative painting. More than just a 'picture' book, each artist describes the challenges they faced while creating their beautiful and unique works of art. This book also serves as an excellent reference guide to the many aspects and styles of decorative painting. This book proves that there is no one best way to paint on one type of surface. From canvas to tin, to wood and walls, the contributing artists prove that you *can* paint on just about anything! The proof is within the pages of this wonderful book.

This is a lovely coffee table or display book, entirely composed of lovely photographs and brief descriptions of the work of some of todays best decorative painters. If you are simply curious about what can be achieved through the use of decorative painting techniques, or want to know what kinds of works might be available for purchase this is the book for you. Absolutely NOT an instructional reference, as sellers descriptions might imply. No How-to instructions here.
