In my opinion this book is the greatest book ever written on the whys and hows of hunting big whitetails. If the most important thing in your life is big whitetails, which is mine, then this book is for you. This book reinforces and refreshes things you may have already known or will know. It helps you to become a better hunter by helping you to learn how to learn and gain knowledge. It's written by one of the "pioneers" of big whitetail hunters; Dick Idol, one of the best hunters to ever climb a tree. This man has forgot more about big whitetails than most people learn in a lifetime. He takes you through the pattern of bucks from when velvet peels off until antler shedding takes place and also through different habitat types and hunting pressure levels. It is full of practical information on helping you scout, hunt, and tactics for locating and harvesting that "Grandad" buck. It wont guarantee you a big buck but it stresses the need to pay attention to details and use your common sense and logic. He also points out the importance of enhancing the luck factor as much as possible and making your own luck to a certain point. Even if you only learn one thing from this book that's one thing you didn't know. If you're serious with your big whitetail obsession then buy this book. I did and I'm a better big buck hunter for it.

This book is a must read for all bow hunters! It is also an enjoyable read for anyone who like to watch deer and wonder what they are doing year round. I purchased 3 of these books for neices and nephews, and will give my book to a grand daughter who just expressed an interest in bow hunting this fall.
