5.0 out of 5 stars Swing Out, Sisters!, April 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of the Dinning Sisters (Audio CD)
How well I remember the Dinning Sisters from "Beg Your Pardon." Their first Capitol album made record history as they were the first significant pop act to debut on an album rather than a single and that album went straight to number one. The arts and crafts cover illustration was as famous as the album. The Dinning Sisters--the number in the group and the individuals in the group varied from time to time but they were all true sisters--achieved a unique blend and sound. Much more whimsical than the Andrews Sisters, their own idols. They were all darling in looks and personality, too, and all of them could sing lead. Becoming wives and mothers kept them from becoming the great stars they could have been. The Dinning brother Mark had a hit with "Teen Angel," written by a Sister, and Patti Page grew up across the alley from the Dinnings so there are a lot of musical links here. You will love this album and, with luck, there will be a volume two as much is missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars I personally know one of the Dinning sisters, September 1, 1999

I haven't gotten the CD yet, but I have the privledge of knowing one of the Dinning Sisters. She lives in the St. Louis area, and she is one of the most charming, darling, delighful people I have ever met. Her brother was also a singer, and the Dinning Sisters sang backup on his most popular recordings (I've forgotten the name of the song--but it is VERY recognizable-most people will have heard of it.) The sisters also sang all of the backup for the movie Snow White.

I don't wish to violate this sister's privacy, but I will notify her that she has someone who wants to converse with her. I'll try to get her to this website--she is such a sweet person that I'm sure she will be very flattered to know that she still has fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Deserved Rebirth, February 22, 2000

About a half of a century ago I bought a Capital album (78RPM) entitled "Songs of the Dinning Sisters" that started my love affair with these unique and not sufficiently remembered artists. I was elated when my internet search uncovered this CD, my 78's having become almost inaudible. I only wish there was room for more of their very special renditions like "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" and "Do You Love Me." Might another album be added to this treasure trove!
