A swell collection, but SIXTY BUCKS?, February 27, 2004
This review is from: Best Disco Album in the Universe 1 (Audio CD)
No offense to the Marketplace seller listing this for $59.99, but I found it used for $4.95! Who knew it was such a deal! As a disco addict, I know the song lengths are important to know, so here they are:
Chic-Dance Dance Dance (YYY) (8:19)
Sylvester-I Need You (4:40)
Change (lead by Luther) (8:01)
Trammps-That's Where The Happy People Go (6:39)
Ecstasy, Passion, & Pain-Ask Me (3:17)
Roy Ayers Ubiquity-Running Away (4:00)
Junior-Mama Used To Say (6:38) (It's the superior "American Mix")
South Shore Commission-Free Man (7:29)
Gwen McCrae-Funky Sensation (6:31)
Intruders-I'll Always Love My Mama (Part I)(6:37) (That's long enough for Part II as well, I'd venture)
Candi Staton-Young Hearts Run Free (4:10)
Van McCoy-Hustle (3:28)
Looks like 12" and LP versions were used where possible. The series earns points for including songs off the beaten path along with some beaten deep, deep into the path (The Hustle again? It's on every disco comp ever made...) There are also informative liner notes that devote a paragraph to every song. However, before you shell out the megabucks--I've seen most, if not all, these songs on other compilations; listen to Smokey's mom and shop around...
