Quality of DCC's discs is fantastic. This CD collects all of the best songs of the Doobie~. The sound is terrific, containing no any noise. Play it loud as much as you can and it seems that the band are playing in front of you. Sorry that now it's a hard-to-find CD.

The Doobie Brothers first hit the airwaves in the early '70s when I was serving in a Pershing missile battalion in Germany. The GI slang term for German citizens was "doobies" (as near as I can figure, this term derived from DB, the acronym for Deutsches Bundesrepublik, and yes, I am well aware that "doobie" was also a slang term for a marijuana cigarette, but that is whole different kettle of fish, etymologically speaking), so when "Listen to the Music" would come on the radio, some GI wit would often get a big laugh by saying something along the lines of, "hey--it's those doobie brothers, Hans and Dieter!" I guess you had to be there...Anyway, DCC has taken this Warner Bros. release and given it the royal gold treatment. The resulting sound is crisp and clean, with tight if not particularly low bass, and not a touch of hardness or excess brightness. Until the Doobies picked up Michael McDonald, they had no really good singer, nor were they ever particularly noteworthy instrumentalists, but somehow they managed to transcend their limitations and produce a string of songs that were great to listen to on the radio. Whether that kind of nostalgia will be worth big bucks to listen to on a high-end system is an individual decision--I'll have to admit that I would probably pass, but I'll bet a lot of ex-GIs will pick this up so they can listen to old Hans and Dieter rock out once again, this time in well balanced, crystal-clear sound.

I have the audiocassette version, not the CD. It has most of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs on it. The one I keep replaying time after time is "Black Water," great for listening to or dancing to. On a long bus trip in Europe we went through a number of cassettes and a varied music selection (pan flute, classical, crooners (Sinatra and Tony Bennett type) country, and rock, but the cassette that got the consensus vote for good listening was this one!
