5.0 out of 5 stars The best dressed chicken of them all, February 7, 2002
By
roarscach (Barcelona(Spain)) - See all my reviews
Probably the strangest name for an album in the whole jamaica, including the lee perry ones, this underrated roots-dub-toasting masterpiece has to reach his truly position in jamaican music. Dr. Alimantado and Lee Perry himself create in here a wonderfully well crafted background of music and toasting, making this album one to listen carefully to.....but dont worry, it gets you as fast as alimantado chant you down....because this is the best dressed chicken in town....

5.0 out of 5 stars Lilting roots reggae, February 20, 2007
This reggae classic consists of tracks recorded from 1974 to 1976 at different Jamaican studios. Dr Winston Alimantado is assisted on vocals by legends like Gregory Isaacs and Horace Andy among others. The music is mostly laid-back with a dub feel, a gently lilting and swaying beat with superb vocals. My favourites include the title track with its hilarious chicken sounds, I Killed The Barber with its interesting arrangement and Can't Conquer Natty Dread with its chugging rhythm and hypnotic melody. Part of this album's charm derives from the different production styles that offer plenty of variation and ensure a delightful listening experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Big Find, December 24, 2006
By
Threesixxty (Brasil/Mexico/U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
It took me over 3 years of collecting reggae to find this highly recommendable album which I would classify as a type of vocal-roots-dub.

What to expect:
**radical lyrics
**sing along melodies
**awesome roots-style beats
**smokin' dub effects

I can also boast for this album that it's the first one to ever inspire a review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid Revelation, February 25, 2000

The Best dressed chicken in town shows so much richness and variety that it still remains a big hit. Dr.Alimentado is a good performer on stage and can act really funny. Many of his songs deal with problems and fights in his society. He calls for peace and understanding and tries to use his sense of humor for it

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, February 8, 2000

This is one of my favourite reggae albums. It has bass-heavy production, incredible grooves, the good doctor's superb toasting and good tunes ("Poison Flour" is the best example). I prefer this album to Tado's "Born for a Purpose" since the overall quality of the songs is superior.

this is one of those definitive albums that shape a music genre, anything by the dr. is good but every tune on this cd is pure unadulterated roots reggae straight from kingston, and the heart

5.0 out of 5 stars six stars for Dr. Alimantado, March 24, 2000
This review is from: Best Dressed Chicken in Town (Audio CD)
This is one of the best reagge records ever made (besides Bob Marley, no one above and only a few chosen beside him. This is one of them) and if you like soft laidback reagge from the 70 s it is perfect. This is Kingston Jamaica reagge with vey good music and with often emotional lyrics..

I and many of my friends have loved this record since it came out. I often bring it with me on a tape when I have been travelling around the world, and I can not count all the times people come over to me and ask me who made this music. I haven't once been to a reagge place (where they played a bit of it for me) without some rasta person coming over to ask me where they can get this music.

For those who already now this record, I will also recommend Prince Muhammed G. Nooks: Do you remember Africa.

Ladies and gentlemen: A gem

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, August 1, 2005
I don't often listen to reggae, my music collection cosists of things like the doors, the ramones, the prodigy, the sex pistols and things like maddness and the specials. But for the past 7 months all my dad has listened to is reggae and i love most of it, especially this. This music is great to listen to in the car, or to cheer you up or to have a great time listening to music! The firsts ong i heard was 'Johnny was a baker". I turned to my dad and said 'dad, who is this? Its great!' im sure anyone who would buy this would love it!
