5.0 out of 5 stars D'Groove, April 3, 2000
This review is from: The Best of Dtrain (Audio CD)
D.Train was Grooving back in the day.Your'e The One For Me still is a Great Jam.That Song hasn't let up at all.Something's On Your Mind is a Great Slow-Jam.in Fact it Inspired Miles Davis to Record his own Version of it for his Your'e Under Arrest Album.D'Train were one of the few Groups in the Mid-80's to keep the Funk Alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the "D" TRAIN you'll ever need, July 20, 2003

"D" TRAIN was a bad mutha (shut my mouth)! All of those post-disco,R&B hits are here. "You're The One For Me" (it's remixed but it still has some of that original flavor so you won't lose the vibe from back in the day),"Something's On Your Mind","Walk On By","Keep On" and more will get you on the dance floor without any delay. All 10 songs I believe are from his Prelude Records days...wishing this greatest hits set was only on vinyl to mix the hell out of every song!

This group rocked the clubs from the years 1981-1983 (my early college years). You're the one for me, Keep on, Music, and Something on your mind made folks get on the floor.

5.0 out of 5 stars D Train in a toyota, August 9, 2006
This review is from: The Best of Dtrain (Audio CD)
I can recall that in the early eighties i experienced D Train in a corolla. The sound realy emerged through the 5 watts blaupunkt speakers all the way through Bergen and Schoorl. I still cannot hear high tones. Have a nice day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! ...But Tends To Duplicate His Other CD, May 14, 2008

In 1982 and 1983, I resented D Train, because the sound was different from Rick James and other late-70's music I was loyal to. Plus, DeeJays overplayed "You're The One For Me" on the radio, and burned me out on the group.

So, I just bought this CD in 2008, and I absolutely love it! All the songs are great, but my favorites are "Trying To Get Over," and "Keep On." The arrangements, instruments, and vocal styles are timeless. D Train's lyrics and vocals are melodic and inspirational.

ONE WORD TO THE WISE: You can save yourself $21.00 by purchasing either this CD or "The Best Of The "12" Mixes" -- but NOT both. Maybe I'm the only dunce who didn't know this before, but I'm trying to warn you all now. The only difference is that one song "Trying To Get Over" is approx. three (3) minutes longer on the "12" Mixes" CD. That's it.

Perhaps because Hubert Eaves III's productions were always on the cutting edge, James "D-Train" Williams was never recognized as agreat soulsinger. His ultra-soulful, full-of-conviction and strong and powerful yet sensitive vocals do place him in the same league as legendary R&B singers like Teddy Pendergrass, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye. "Thank You", Something's On Your Mind", "Walk On By" and "Keep On" all prove this.

I listen to this cd on my way home from work and it brings back such great memories of when music really was music. This is the type of music that I do not have a problem letting my children listen to. It's clean and positive stuff, not like some of the junk that is cranked out now.
