WARNING! This is NOT the Duane Eddy I wanted to hear!,
This review is from: Best Of Duane Eddy, The (Audio CD)
Well, if you really want to hear tepid, overly produced remakes of Duane Eddy's classic songs featuring (yech!) syrup laden new-agey synthesizers, then this is the CD for you. Otherwise, stick to the original recordings. Caveat Emptor!

Deceptive marketing indeed!,

I have no grief with Duane Eddy wanting to remake old material; he could have many valid reasons for doing so. But Curb's presentation of this as D.E.'s "greatest hits" with absolutely NO MENTION on the packaging that these are not the originals is out and out [fake]. Buyers on Amazon will undoubtedly see through this ruse, but not casual buyers in a store. This strikes me as a deliberate and criminal attempt to defraud consumers. The disc says "unauthorized duplication is a violation of the law". That's a bit ironic.

not bad for the price, but a long, long way from what is expected and what was original.Deceptive marketing, for nowhere on this case or disc is anything said about it being a remake, etc.It is disappointing that it is so hard to find an original Duane Eddy recording, and this makes it even more so.The music is ok, but it is not what you may think it is.

Fraudulent Marketing, lackluster re-recordings.,

LET THE BUYER BEWARE! Despite the packaging, these are tepid 1996 re-recordings of Eddy's hits. The casual buyer looking for a good, single CD "best of" of the original recordings should keep on looking.

Outstanding re-workings of some classic instrumental hits!,

This apparently is a re-titled version of "Ghostrider (Great Guitar Hits)" released by Curb July 2, 1996. There are several new songs, including "Sidewinder" (on which Duane plays a Valley Arts guitar instead of the usual Gretsch or Danelectro.) Great sound. The revised version of "The Avenger" is also a standout with terrific synth work from one-time Moody Blues keyboardist Bias Boshell. Of course, there's "Rebel 'Rouser," "40 Miles Of Bad Road," and an extended version of "Ramrod" with a rockin' Larry Knechtel piano solo that eventually segues into an improvised "jam" of the great Buster Brown classic, "Fannie Mae" that's simply awesome! The title cut, "Ghostrider," is a tribute to the "Ghostriders" of today, the Stealth Bomber pilots. Long-time Eddy side man Jim Horn provides the outstanding honkin' tenor sax solos. If you missed this CD the first time around, check it out now.

Definitive 90's Update of the Classic Instrumentals,
By A Customer
This review is from: Best Of Duane Eddy, The (Audio CD)
This is the definitive 1990's update of Eddy's most famous instrumental hits and has him working again with former "Rebels" Jim Horn and Larry Knechtel. Anyone who doubts whether the twangy guitar sound can fit comfortably in the modern era need on ly listen to "Dreams of Home". A couple of further comments. 11 tracks is really short change in this day and age. Secondly, having given the oldies an up to date treatment, what about more new tracks on the next album?

Dissapointed,

I had been looking for a Duane Eddy CD for some time. Some had reviewed this as a poor remake of the original music I remember. But since Duane Eddy is listed as one of the producers I thought it would be good. I should have listened. It was definitely NOT the original music. Some songs are similar but that's all. I am giving it away.

I play this CD for hours. No vocal to speak of--just instramental. Duane Eddy is a terrific guitarist. If you're a Baby Boomer or older, you've probably heard of him. He did the theme to the old TV show "Have Gun--Will Travel". Richard Boone with his rugged pocked marked face was the star, known as Palidin, played the starring role. Duane Eddy did so many songs familar to peole who may not know his name. Rebel-Rouser is another one of his. My Blue heaven is his, too. The theme to "Peter Gunn". Yeah, that's Duane Eddy. The guy is good, what can I say other than that?
