Born, raised, and still a resident of Rochester, NY, Randi Minetor never imagined she'd be writing about outdoor adventure--in fact, she may still hold her high school's record for skipping the most gym classes in a single year. When she discovered the backcountry wonders of America's national parks in 1992 with her husband, photographer/lighting designer Nic Minetor, that first trip changed her life--and by 2000, the Minetors had pledged to see all 391 (now 401) national parks in their lifetimes. A way to subsidize this passion materialized in 2006, when they began writing and photographing books on the parks for FalconGuides. Today Randi has written 20 books for The Globe Pequot Press, ranging from national park travel to American history to the best day hikes in upstate New York. She and Nic also have launched a line of National Park Quest Guides, available only for Kindle. In addition, Randi is the National Parks Examiner on Examiner.com.
Randi maintains a business client base as a corporate writing and media relations professional in Rochester. Her most recent book reveals the secrets to her successful business, "How to Start a Home-based Public Relations Business." When not writing (and when is she not writing?), she is an avid birder and a contestant in the annual Montezuma Muckrace birding competition in Seneca Falls, NY. (Her team came in third in 2011's Muckrace!) Nic is the resident lighting designer for Eastman Opera Theatre, and provides lighting design to theatre productions at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, as well as to Rochester Children's Theatre and Blackfriars Theatre. The Minetors live in a 1917 American Foursquare home in Rochester, to which they are performing a lengthy but satisfying mission/arts and crafts restoration. To date, they have visited 292 national parks.
I like having all the information on hiking in Central New York right in me Kindle FIre. I have already used it to find a nice hike while out motorcycle riding.
