OK - three things you need to know about this CD:
1) It is easily the best concise collection of Eddie's music - 40 well-selected tracks, sharply remastered, and nicely packaged (though poorly annotated). 2) It's a sweet deal - two CD's for around 10 bucks. 3) It is copy protected which - on my Mac OSX computer, at least - forced me to use a player contained on the CD itself and prevented me from ripping MP3 versions for use on my iTunes or iPod. That, as Eddie once sung, gave me the rock and roll blues. On the merits of the music alone, 'Best of Eddie Cochran' rates 4 stars - really great stuff, but most of it falls short of the brilliant standard set by classics like 'Summertime Blues' or 'Something Else.' Then, I docked it one star for the copy protection.... TRACK LISTING: - Disc 1 - 1. Summertime Blues 2. Three Steps To Heaven 3. Somethin' Else 4. Cut Across Shorty 5. Twenty Flight Rock 6. Sittin' In The Balcony 7. Drive In Show 8. Three Stars 9. Skinny Jim 10. Sweetie Pie 11. Completely Sweet 12. Pretty Girl 13. Tell Me Why 14. Undying Love 15. Blue Suede Shoes 16. Little Lou 17. Teresa 18. I Remember 19. Weekend 20. That's My Desire - Disc 2 - 1. C'mon Everybody 2. Teenage Heaven 3. Hallelujah, I Love Her So 4. Long Tall Sally 5. Nervous Breakdown 6. Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie 7. Lonely 8. Am I Blue 9. Heart Breakin' Mama 10. Rock And Roll Blues 11. Cherished Memories 12. Eddie's Blues 13. My Way 14. Pink Peg Slacks 15. Milk Cow Blues 16. Boll Weevil Song 17. Little Angel 18. Mean When I'm Mad 19. Dark Lonely Street 20. Think Of Me

This is indeed Eddie's best. In his short career, he was able to make some great music. "Summertime Blues" is a song that never ages. "Twenty Flight Rock" is rockabilly at its finest. This album covers his whole life with a broad range of sounds. It is a must for the collector of the first decade of R&R. I was hoping for a great CD and I was not disappointed.

This cd has all my favorite Eddie Cochran songs on it, I bought it originally for the "I Remember" song, but all the songs on here, all 40 are just so great to hear again, this is one of my favorite cd's that I've bought.I still can't figure out completely why Eddie was more popular in Europe than here, this is really great rock and roll.My only guess to that question is there was a lot of competition at the time these songs were out,and some of these songs, are very similar to each other, but, whatever, I really enjoy this cd, as you will also. Very Highly Recommended

The American Invasion of England,
This review is from: The Best of Eddie Cochran (Audio CD)
Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Clyde McPhater,Bobbie Darin and Duane Eddy were the very first Rock and Roll Artist from America to play concerts in the United Kingdom in 1960. In just 4 years later the Beatles invaded America. Of the original 5...Only Duane Eddy is still standing and recording. Last fall Duane returned to England to tour and record a new Album.
The results of the recording is "Road Trip" (Available on amazon.com) and Duane Eddy is to Headline Viva Las Vegas at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada USA. To find out more on this...go to the Duane Eddy FaceBook and Twitter accounts. While your there, say Merry Christmas to Duane.

Underrated in the U.S. Eddie was a great guitarist. Ask Paul McCartney. The English kids appreciated him. Gene and Eddie died way too young. Stray Cats appreciated him. Disappointed that "Let's Get Together " a copy of "C'mon Everybody" was not included. Rocker songs are great, but ballads not too impressive. Sounds like he pushed his voice. Not much range in his voice like Gene. Appreciate Elvis because he was truly a great singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The kid was talented though!

If you are a fan of the blues or rock-a-billy, Elvis or Carl Perkins, then you will enjoy this two CD set. You get over 30 songs for a few bucks, so it's a good deal. There are a few classics that anyone would like and the rest are for those who appreciate the sounds.
Enjoy. |
