4.0 out of 5 stars Whats the best Money for your money?
Eddie Money has one too many compilations and none of them are perfect, but this is one of the best. First, there was 1989's Greatest Hits: Sound of Money. A great compilation with 13 tracks including 2 songs unique to the album: Looking through the eyes of a child & Stop Steppin' on my heart. Then there were the 10 track collections: Good as Gold & Super Hits...

sony's release of another Eddie Money best of has missed the boat! It appears sony wants to rehash the glory days of Eddie's work from the late 70's and early 80's. Eddie has had many great rock hits throughout the late 80's and early 90's that are in fact much better than most of the filler tracks here. Then there were the 10 track collections: Good as Gold & Super Hits - both unacceptable from their exclusion of "Shakin'" alone! Which brings us to what this review is for: 2001's Best of. All the Eddie Money hits are here but there are some misteps which make it weak as a compilation. "Running back", Money's flirtation with reggae could've been left off, as well as "live" versions of "Rock and Roll the place" and "No Control". Eddie Money sounds best when his strongest hits are one right after another. You'll get them all with this disc, but you may find yourself programming or skipping a few of the other songs regularly.

*2003's Essential Eddie Money is also available (adding yet another Eddie Money compilation!). It also has all the big hits (again), but includes a few different album tracks than "Best of". It also only has studio versions. Either way, you get all the big songs on one disc.

Fanatics may miss tracks here, but this was released for the casual fans, and that's exactly who will love this. "Best Of" pretty much includes the same songs as the older "Sound Of Money" collection, and adds 3 more. Plenty of great hits on here, like "I Wanna Go Back", "Shakin'", "Walk On Water", and of course "Two Tickets To Paradise". Plus "Take Me Home Tonight", "Think I'm In Love", and "Peace In Our Time". I never thought to much about "Eddie Money" at the time, but with this disc I realize how many good hits he really did have, all of which everyone should know well.

Eddie has had many great rock hits throughout the late 80's and early 90's that are in fact much better than most of the filler tracks here. How could you put " Running Back " on a best of cd and not "Gimme Some Water" ? Being that this disc is remastered the sound is incredible ! The sad thing here is sony has forgotten the great 1991-1992 Right Here release, and many of the hit singles were left off as well as the beautiful live acoustic tune "Save A Little Room In Your Heart For Me. As stated earlier you would be hard pressed to find many songs better than the 10 classics on here we all love and know !

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes me back, August 6, 2002

I bought this CD because I was watching the movie "Joe Dirt" and it had a couple of Eddie Money songs. I never really liked Eddie's song "Think I'm In Love" until the movie. That song and "Walk On Water" were featured in the movie nicely so I was going to get the soundtrack. But since they didn't havethe song Think I'm In Love" I started searching for a Eddie Money hits CD. Not only did this CD have the songs I wanted but other really good songs also. "Take Me Home Tonight" reminded me of when I was 15 years old when the song first came out in 1986. The song "Shakin" just rocks. "I wanna Go Back" is another song that brings back memories. His biggest hit " 2 Tickets..." is my least favorite. Overall this is a really good CD. I'm glad I bought it.

this is a pretty good cd but most of his smaller medium size energy hits are missing! also, including live tracks of no control and rock n roll the place are useless! i like the cd artwork nice front and back pics! but ,sony should release either a live cd recorded years ago or a cd containing eddie's big hit singles from the 70's and 80's! example, some top 40 songs added that are out of print to make people want to buy this and to think they are gettting something new! they should have included a couple songs never before released from studio recording! the best greatest hits eddie money cd is YOU CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN! ANOTHER BEST OF COMPILATION DISSAPOINTMENT!1991's right here had some great rock singles like i'll get by and fall in love again as well as she takes my breath away! none of the songs from that cd are added!

5.0 out of 5 stars Boy, do I miss this guy, April 5, 2004
This review is from: Best of Eddie Money (Audio CD)
I can remember those summer nights in Tacoma, driving around with the windows down and "Two Tickets to Paradise" blasting. Rock radio today is missing more than it will ever know by not putting this titan up alongside the likes of Linkin Park - Eddie could hold his own, believe me.

What does this compilation reveal about Eddie Money? That he had solid lyrics, decent melodies, and the power to hit you in the heart? No, none of those. No, Mr. Money's gift to us was a good time. In that sense, he was basically the Aaron Carter of the seventies and eighties - and we all know there ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Buy this disc, turn the speakers way up, and belt the sweet sounds of "Baby, Hold on to Me" - and realize that life is good.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the Great Tunes., December 7, 2004
This review is from: Best of Eddie Money (Audio CD)
This Brooklyn born singer has a place in many hearts across America. His songs are up beat, joyful and have come to represent the good times in the late seventies and early eighties. In January of 1978, when his hit single, `Two Tickets to Paradise", dominated the airwaves, one could not turn on the radio without hearing this man's distinctive voice. This collection of Money's best, cover a long career from his debut album, "Eddie Money" to "Can't Hold Back", "No Control" and "Sound of Money". These are solid pop songs that have withstood the test of time and will continue to do so decades in the future.

One of my favourites is "Take Me Home Tonight" which brings on memories concerning warm summer nights, lost loves, old friends and beer parties that began at sunset and ended at dawn. It was a pleasure to put this CD on the stereo and remember the good times that these songs represent.

It is well known that for a singer to be good, there must be a passion in their voice, a distinctive power and honest intention in the delivery. There is no doubt that Eddie Money sings with passion and means every word. This is what makes him great. We can feel the passion, and therefore these songs mean something. He sings for keeps.

This is a wonderful collection to own and occasionally play to remember the good times. However, Eddie Money is a true icon of Rock, and his music appeals to new generations as well as old. Purchase this CD for yourself or as a gift to an old friend who can share the memories. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definite improvement over "Sound of Money", January 24, 2002

The Scenario (Roseville, MN USA) - See all my reviews

Yeah, there's a few good songs missing here - "Love In Your Eyes", "Let Me In", "Bring Me Some Water", "She Takes My Breath Away", "Heaven In The Back Seat", etc. But this collection still improves over the previous "Sound of Money" collection by adding "Maybe I'm A Fool" and "Running Back", which were criminally left off that old compilation. It also adds a few more songs that weren't on "Sound Of Money" and deletes a couple of the cheesy "new" tunes he had done for that one ("Eyes of a Child", "Stop Steppin' On My Heart"). This is also probably the reason some of his semi-well-known late 80's songs like "Love In Your Eyes" didn't make the cut. Like most material from the 80's, they're dated, overproduced, schlock-rock tunes (fun, but schlock-rock nonetheless) that don't fit in anymore with the barroom rock n' roll image that he probably wants to maintain. Hence the inclusion of pre-'86 stripped-down and more rocking songs like "Wanna Be A Rock N' Roll Star" and "Rock And Roll The Place". Anyway, this is a more definitive overview of Eddie's sound than either "Sound of Money" or most of his post-'86 stuff, and the remastering obviously improves things even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars What ya don't know about Money could be costing ya plenty!, July 25, 2001
By
"chunkrock" (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of Eddie Money (Audio CD)
Eddie Money is one of those rock stars who's had tons of hit singles, been around for over 20 years, and yet somehow never managed to achieve the level of super-stardom which he grossly deserves. A classicaly-trained vocalist with an exceptionally unique sound to his voice, Eddie infuses every song with real emotion and energy. His music (most of which he writes) ranges from rock to reggae to soul to pop, lending his signature style to each. With 13 albums to his credit, and not one that's more than half-bad, it is a shame that Eddie Money's work has yet to be encapsulated in a "greatest hits" package worthy of that title.

One compact disc is incapable of truly showcasing Eddie Money's superior talent. It would most likely take a box set. However, there have been several attempts to make the most out of 74 minutes. First there was "Sound of Money - Greatest Hits". Containing 13 tracks, only half of which were written by Eddie, the album offered some (NOT all) of his biggest commercial hits of the '80s, as well as "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets" from the '70s, but completely overlooked some of his better and more personal self-penned material in favor of several new songs written by the likes of Diane Warren. Not that anything DIANE WARREN writes is bad -- but still.... This is supposed to be EDDIE MONEY's greatest hits. Where is Eddie's childhood anthem "Wanna Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star"? What about "Trinidad", "Maybe I'm A Fool", and "Gimme Some Water", to name a few? At the time of its release, Mr. Money himself publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the "Sound of Money". His perceived lack of recognition is what fueled his next project, "Right Here", making it one of his best albums to date (though again underappreciated).

Next there was "Good As Gold", which is so BAD that I'm not even going to talk about it.

Lastly there was "Super Hits". A seemingly cheap production, "Super Hits" only had 10 songs and, although they were decent choices, their sound quality suffered from digital distortion. Not so SUPER after all.

It looked as though Eddie Money would never have a greatest hits collection he could be proud of. It looked as though fans and appreciators of good music the world over would never have that ONE disc they could listen to, over and over. That ONE disc they could keep in their car, in their office....

Well, I am thankful to say, that ONE disc is finally here: "The Best of Eddie Money". While it's not perfect (as I mentioned earlier, "...box set"), it's pretty close. And it's ten times better than those other three pitiful excuses for a halfway decent compilation.

"The Best of Eddie Money" has 16 songs, all of which are essentials. The songs have all been digitally remastered, so they sound better than they ever have. "No Control" and "Rock and Roll the Place" are both live promo versions previously unavailable on compact disc. The tray card and booklet feature cool, never-before-seen publicity shots. Plus, Sal Nunziato has some really nice things to say in the liner notes.

Judging from past experience, I didn't expect too much from this release. Needless to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. My only complaint is with what is NOT on the disc. While "The Best of Eddie Money" is a totally acceptable summation of Eddie's first 15 years (his years with Columbia), and it does contain a significant amount of his self-penned material, there are still some songs which are sorely missing. First off, there is nothing from the "Right Here" album. And we still don't have "Gimme Some Water", "Club Michelle", "The Love In Your Eyes", "Endless Nights", "Get A Move On", or "The Big Crash". In addition, something from the "Unplug It In" album would have been nice.

Anyway, I guess beggars can't be choosers. My suggestion is that you buy all of Eddie Money's albums and listen to them repeatedly. If you just want to try some, pick up "Eddie Money" (his 1977 self-titled debut), "Life For The Taking" (his 1978 follow-up), "Playing For Keeps" (his 1980 flop), "No Control" (his 1982 big seller), and "Right Here" (his 1991 masterwork). If you're wondering what Eddie is up to these days, you might want to check out his newest album, "Ready Eddie" (1999).

And of course, don't discount "The Best of Eddie Money".

3.0 out of 5 stars not totally worth the money, July 28, 2001

This review is from: Best of Eddie Money (Audio CD)
after spending the day listening to all of eddie money's cds i came to this conclusion, i agree with one of the reviewers! several hits are missing from this compilation. also, the order of the songs is bad too! on the "sound of money" cd the order of the songs were perfect and they all flowed nicely together so you could listen to the whole cd. songs like the two live versions of no control and rock n roll the place should be canned! obliously eddie had no input on this release at all! this should be a 2 cd set! maybe i'm a fool , running back , and trinidad should have been replaced with more exciting eddie hits! hits missing are (1) endless nights (2) the love in your eyes (3) save a little room in your heart for me live acoustic, (4)fall in love again (5) i'll get by (6) gimme some water (7) can't keep a good man down (8) she takes my breath away and others from no control! the "you can't keep a good man down" cd is the closest to being a great eddie money best of cd. hopefully eddie himself will release his own best of cd for his true fans on his website! it is a shame that radio and record companies have turned their back on classic rock performers such as eddie! eddie's songs have always been big and they all struck a chord with blue collar america! and also since after 1991's "right here" cd eddie never made another true rock cd until 1999's "ready eddie" check out the cuts don't say no tonight,it's gotta be love and broken down chevy! you won't be disappointed!
