About the Author

Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American poet, short story writer, editor, and literary critic who is credited with inventing the detective fiction genre and with contributing to the emerging science fiction genre. He began his literary career with the anonymous publication of a collection of his poems entitled Tamerlane and Other Poems. He then turned to writing prose and spent the next several years working for literary journals and periodicals, becoming well known for his particular style of literary criticism. He served for a time on the staff of the New York Mirror, in which his poem "The Raven" was published. Poe's other well-known works include his stories "The Purloined Letter," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," and "The Mystery of Marie Roget." Todd McLaren was involved in radio for more than twenty years in cities on both coasts, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. He left broadcasting for a full-time career in voice-overs, where he has been heard on more than 5,000 TV and radio commercials, as well as TV promos; narrations for documentaries on such networks as A&E, Discovery, and the History Channel; and films, including Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

4.0 out of 5 stars I was ok... the guy read a little fast though., March 30, 2001
This review is from: The Best of Edgar Allan Poe (Audio Cassette)
When he read the poetry, it seemed he was reading so fast that - before I could think about what he was saying he said something else. You should get this if you're not really interested in the entertainment value over just listening to some Poe and visualising his stories. It's "generic," yet good listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poe was a master of suspense, September 30, 2011

I urge everyone to read Poe's writings and this is a collection of his best works. I know that most of his stories have been made into movies but I think Hollywood is making a mistake in not retelling them with up-to-date actors and technology.
