5.0 out of 5 stars The original and best compilation, although incomplete, April 30, 2004
By "cydrone" (Franklin, WI United States) - See all my reviews
I had to write something because the other review does not do this disc justice at all. This was the very first CD I ever bought (May 1986) and I still play it. It was one of the first compilations done specifically for CD (65 minutes was a lot of music in those days) and although I have another Costello collection that is more complete, I like this disc the best. All 19 songs are wonderful and the sequencing is better than in the other compilations I've seen. This is apparently out of print, but if you find a used copy, it's worth a few bucks for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior to all other compilations for one reason, May 11, 2008
This is the only best-of compilation (AFAIK) that includes "The Only Flame in Town", which evidently Elvis never liked but is in fact one of his best tunes. And it's a song that you want on a greatest hits comp because you sure don't want to buy the crappy album it originally appeared on (_Goodbye Cruel World_).

This CD's only shortcoming is the lack of "High Fidelity", from the _Get Happy!_ album. I would also have included "Less Than Zero" from the debut, but I can live without it. Of course to be complete, a best-of comp would have to include the entirety of the albums _This Year's Model_ and _Imperial Bedroom_, and most of _Armed Forces_ and _Trust_.

Later compilations are also weighted down by too much of his later work, which IMO is just not entertaining, so this the fact that this comp ends so early is actually another strength.

5.0 out of 5 stars All The Greatest Costello Hits On One Release, May 5, 2009
If you're looking for Elvis Costello's essential hits, including his releases from the early 80s, this is a great CD. This CD was definitely compiled for Generation X. There is a good even mix of 70s and early 80s hits. Buying this CD at a used price doesn't hurt either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but....
This is actually a decent hits disc, but the only collection that's in print, and not an import, is "The Very Best Of Elvis Costello". Read more
