This book provides good basic information on many types of birds, and lots of tips for becoming bird-friendly. I have been "birding" for several years now, so I was already informed about much of the information provided. It is a good source for what plants/trees/landscape will attract birds and what each species likes to eat. Be aware that it is mainly "black and white" type (actually blue and white) with very minimal color pictures/photos. Pretty good source, especially for a beginner.

I received a mailing about this book and was very interested except for the high cost. I went to Amazon.com and for about one quarter of the price, ordered from them. The book is very attractive and with much worthwhile informtion. I have only been birding for about two years but found the information very helpful and understandable. It adds to my Shipley reference library with new information for the backyard birder.

This is a very informative and beautifully-illustrated book, written by Deborah L. Martin, and contains many tips for the novice; my daughters love it. The book arrived very promptly, before the estimated arrival time, in excellent condition, and meets all our expectations. Thanks!

I just finished reading this book, cover to cover. Going into it, I really didn't know much about the bird world. I had purchased a couple of feeders for my backyard, and thought it would be a good idea to educate myself. I actually thought the finches that came to my feeders in large numbers were sparrows prior to reading this book. It offers advice on a wide range of birding, from identifying common species to setting up water features to attract birds. Many different topics covered in good detail. I plan to re-read it to fully grasp all of the provided information. I'd definitely recommend this title, especially to those that are just starting out, like myself.

Good book to have for tips on attracting birds and general knowledge about their likes and dislikes. I wish it had more color pictures that were scattered throughout the book but that would probably increase the cost which is currently resonable.

This book is for all levels of back yard birders. There is a lot of information between the covers. Birds and the type of feeders used was important information. I liked the illustrations ; they complemented the text. The only food and feeder not mentioned was bark butter and its unique feeder. That can be purchased from Wild Birds Unlimited.
