Best Exotic Baby Names: New, Historical, Ancient, Mystical

This book is perfect! We are expecting our baby in the Spring and are looking for a name that is meaningful and unique. We found 4 names right away that we're considering now! This book is the most helpful of all of the books I've looked at for non-typical, original names.

When I was reading through reviews of this book, I was hoping someone would give specific examples of names to give me an idea of what to expect. I was looking for a name that is not too overused (like Aiden and Christopher), but not something that would require my child to always spell his name. "New, Historical, Ancient" names sounded intriguing and promising, so I bought the book. It proved to be an interesting read, but unfortunately, I didn't find what I was looking for.

The book also includes additional sections:

Then this is the book for you! This book is very detailed, well organized, AND... considerate! :) Yes, considerate by way of providing pronunciations for each and every name! This book turned out to not quite be what I was looking for, but there are some very interesting names in here. I personally didn't get but so far through it, just because I got aggravated having to read almost every provided pronunciation, but this book will certainly take you away from "Amanda", "Kelly", "Christopher", and "Jonathan". Oh, an added bonus: If you give your child one of the names out of this book, they will ALWAYS know when it's a telemarketer calling, because the poor sap calling will INEVITABLY mispronounce such unique names! :)

Ms. Jones certainly did her research for this book. The level of detail, history and meaning she has found for this global array of names is truly staggering. Need a break from the plethera of Avas, Jeremys, Gavins and Emmas? This is the book for you!

This is a fabulous book of names from all over the world that are absolutely, refreshingly different. If you feel stumped by the abundance of "unoriginal" names, but don't want to name your child something stupidly original like Teapot or San Francisco, this book is perfect for you. All the names have a history and the variety is astounding.

My only criticism is that the book is organized a little weirdly. You have to keep referencing the table of contents to check what section of names you're reading from. Overall, I have few complaints. We found the book in a little baby store in Phoenix, AZ and the shopkeeper was the author's cousin. Apparently she's labored for years over the book, so take advantage of her hard work and check it out! It's a total find!

While pregnant with our daughter, my wife and I had looked in all the "usual" baby books for a first name with no luck. Then we came across "Best Exotic Baby Names". We were not looking for something that would be so exotic where people had to ask a second time what her name was. What we found was a large list of names that were uncommon in there usage, but beautiful and unique in their meaning. We regularly get compliments on our daughter's name.

This book delivers on its promises. I especially appreciated the addition of literal and connotative name meanings and the all important pronunciation guides.

I found several wonderful "new to me" names for girls. However, I didn't find as many boy name contenders and the book does feel a bit short. I would give this title 5 stars if it contained a higher volume of names.

Although, this name book does not have a plethora of names, it does however, have a wealth of different names from various cultures. If your looking for the trendy, traditional and typical sounding names, then this is not the book for you, however, if you are interested in giving your child a name that is different and from a particular culture, then I say go for this book.

Well, if you're looking for truly exotic names, this may be for you. We were dissapointed with the book- either the names were too strange/exotic or they sounded way too ethnic for Americans.

Great book with Super-unique and very individual names...some of them were ones I had heard of in other books but most of the names were quite original and their origins were very interesting.

If you're looking to find a baby names book that has names you would doubtfully find in other books and want a very symbolic/ethnic or creative name this is a "must read" for you....I loved it A+++
