5.0 out of 5 stars HOT SH*T
THIS ALBUM IS HOT ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT HIS BEST BY FAR. I AM A HUGE FAN OF OMAR'S. IN MY OPINION TO UNDERSTAND OMAR, YOU MUST OWN THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG. I DON'T KNOW IF THE US IS READY FOR THIS BRAND OF NEO SOUL. HIS STYLE IS A CROSS BETWEEN RHYTHM AND BLUES, REGGAE, BOSSA NOVA, TO SAY THE LEAST. HE'S A BAD MAN. DEFINITELY GET THIS JOINT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO GET...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not exactly his best, by far
A very good friend got me this album for Christmas, and I appreciated it, seeing how hard it is to find, and how much I like Omar's music. However, this CD doesn't quite make the cut of his previous work. I have found it growing on me, and it seems that the album flows better as a unit, rather than trying to listen here and there. Still, Omar's creativity shines...

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Thankful!, June 7, 2001

That's right. "Be Thankful" for the opportunity to be blessed by yet another Omar classic. The version of the cd I own has 15 tracks. One is a re-redone version of "Be Thankful" with Angie Stone, and the bonus 15th track is a remix of "Something Real." I must admit that I am smitten with the Erykah Badu collaboration. Angie Stone provides a heavier, deeper groove which melds into the bassline which is tight unto itself. Erykah's vocals provide an airy and breeziness to the tune as if you're cruising around on a sunny day with the top down. One can quickly ask "How does Omar do it so consistently?" "Best By Far" is a delightful step in the already hit laden path he is trailblazing. Do yourself a favor by copping "Best By Far." The only thing is you may need his previous works to see just how far you've journeyed, and where you're heading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Diamond in the Rough, December 19, 2000

I've heard so much about Omar, but the only thing I've managed to hear was "Never to Late" off of his "This is not a Love Song" album. So, when I just happened to look and see this in my local Record Store, I jumped on it.

I have not been disappointed. The WHOLE album just...flows. There is not one track that I can even begin to see anyone wanting to skip. I'm just lovin' the cover of "Be Thankful" with Erykah Badu. I can't even think of the names of the tracks, because I listen to the whole thing as a whole. You will, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, August 5, 2001

This review is from: Best By Far (Audio CD)
Found this CD while browsing a store in Nashville.I snapped it up as I have been a fan of his since the old Kongo days. I had his last album and it disappeared mysteriously.I won't let it happen to this one. I was on the road when I bought it and I listened to it for 300 miles. This is real music sung the way only Omar can do it. His harmonies can send a warm wave up your spine. I know when I play it for my friends and relatives they are all going to want one. It is only available as an import. The fact there is not a U.S. licensee says a lot about the taste of American record execs and less about the publics taste in music. The whole album is great but frankly one song "Be Thankful" is worth the price of the CD.If you like old school funky, latiny, jazzy soul check this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Reason I don't listen to radio. No Omar!, September 9, 2001

I have to admit the first time I heard this CD I said, "What the hell was Omar thinkin'" A week later I was hooked. This man does it all. He has some funk, bossa nova, doo wop, 2 step and has his own way of making each genre his own. My favorite tracks are (Syleste) because I love bossa nova, (In the morning) is just too F---in good. (I guess) is just funky. Omar is the Stevie Wonder of the new millenium. Theres a reason why it's not on radio. Its too good. Real music fans will appreciate the CD for the art. The average listener will not like it because they have been force-fed all the garbage. Peace!

Steven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best UK Soul Artist By Far, January 2, 2001

Doing it again for UK pride Omar has put out yet another classic album which will know no doubt be ignored by the majors. Too bad because that means a lot of people will miss out on some of the greatest work put on a CD.

I have been waiting for a new Omar release impatiently for three years and bought this one without waiting to hear the single, just because I knew my man Omar would not let me down.

Excellent work, respect due!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

There's no comparing to him. I can't think of a single male artist out there that can compare to Omar's songs and vocals (I love D'Angelo just as much as the next gal, but he's nothing like this!). This was a great purchase. I already have For Pleasure and wanted to try out more of his music. It's addicting.

If you're reading these reviews, if you've gotten THIS far...go on and buy it! For real. Obviously recommendations from friends or amazon, or wherever led you here because of your taste in music. Well treat yourself to this!

Fave Tracks:
*Tell Me - My FAVORITE TRACK! Even listening to the 30sec sample on amazon was a joy (over and over, lol). I love when he does tracks like this. Reminds me of "Magical Mystical Way" on his For Pleasure CD.

*Be Thankful - love the collab w/Angie Stone

*Best by Far - Just a jazzy groove to chillout to; maybe a nice long car ride

*Syleste - I love how Omar exposes me to something different...this is it

*Essensual - a loungey groove, but cool, lol. I think it's fun. Love his vocals

Anyway, like I said...if you've come this far - buy it. Especially before it's gone.

Peace

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cd! ready for something new!, July 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Best By Far (Audio CD)
I got this cd as an Import 3 years ago and loved It.I got a chance to here this version and It's the same with the exception of the remixes of the 'be thankful' song.He also replaced mrs badu with mrs stone and while a good version It still makes me wonder why It took so long to get the us version released? I give this cd four stars Instead of five because It Is same cd as the old one with a few changes.I ready and hoping for new material from omar soon.
