Varied And Full Of Surprises!,
By Mr. Music Critic (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Best Of Fattburger (Audio CD)
Steve Laury and company comprise the jazz/rock band called Fattburger. I began listening to them in the early 90's and enjoyed them more back then, than I do now. But, overall their music is varied and full of surprises! As far as this collection is concerned.... The song Good News is one of my favorites. It is a lively instrumental. The 2nd selection Make That Dream Come True is a pretty good song. It has vocals, but no credit is given to anyone in the liner notes. These are about the worst liner notes that I have seen in a CD. The song Eva reminds me a lot of the type of music Lee Rittenour featured on his CD's back in this same time frame. It is definitely a guitar-based song. The Doctor is a piano-based song. It is one of my all-time favorite songs from them. One More Time is a decent song. It's a typical smooth jazz style song. Some of the octave-style guitar playing remind me of George Benson. Imagine That is a Latin-style song. I would say that it's okay overall. Without Love is another song that features vocals. It sounds a bit like Al Jarreau. But, not nearly as good. Sorry Al and your fans. It's an okay song. Daydreaming is another good song. Who Put The Meat In My Bed? This is kind of a techno-jazz selection. It's not bad! Monica is a song that kind of reminds me of Earl Klugh. Almost An Angel is another Latin-style song. Steve Laury enjoys playing octaves on his guitar and this song is full of them. Night After Night...has a bouncy, feel to it that will get you moving. Overall, this is a pretty good CD. The only song that I feel should be on here and isn't is One Of A Kind...perhaps, this really is their best!

This review is from: The Best Of Fattburger (Audio CD)
I probably listened to this CD more than any other, because it contains so many great smooth jazz-funk numbers--no less than ten! The best tracks, all of which could be pop hits with adequate airplay, are:(1) Daydreaming, (2) Good News, (3) Almost an Angel, (4) Monica, (5) Who Put the Meat in My Bed?, (6) Imagine That, (7) One More Time, (8) Night After Night, (9) The Doctor, and (10) Eva.
