3.0 out of 5 stars Warning: this rack is for OLYMPIC & 7ft standard barbells ONLY!
I did a LOT of research on squat racks before I decided on this one. The main reason I chose this one is:
a) it looked pretty compact and I have only a small room (most press/squat racks you have to be on one side for bench press, then go around to the other side of the rack to squat...with this one you don't have to do that)
b) the price was very good, and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good compact rack, September 2, 2008
This review is from: Best Fitness BFPR10 Multi Press Rack (Sports)
Been using for a couple of months and am quite happy with the product. Assembly was quick & fast. Noticed there were two stable positions (vertical bars slightly closer at the top or slightly wider at the bottom).

Best features:
* The safety bars (both squats and bench presses) are extremely useful when you don't have a spotter.
* Easily do both squats & bench presses on the same side by adjusting height.
* Compact footprint. You still need an 7 ft Olympic sized bar. A 6 ft bar will do if the separation between the joints is standard (I think it's 52.5" or so).
* Price! Couldn't find too many in this range that offers the safety bars as well.

Cons:
* The horizontal bar at the bottom is mounted a little high, so it can interfere with some benches. I have a folding bench and need to swap the front-back directions to get it to fit. Standard workout benches probably won't have this issue. So buy this first, and then the bench.
* Doesn't tell you how much weight you can safely use. I have a 300lb set, but am not using all of it right now.

Overall, very happy with the product, and would highly recommend to someone who is in need of a compact footprint for doing squats (as well as bench presses).

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nice performer, July 4, 2009

After researching online and in person for a decent bench press for the house, somewhere between amateur and professional, I decided on this rack and the accompanying bench, the Best Fitness BFFID10 FID Bench (see my review for the bench on its page).

First off, this was really easy to assemble. Two different sizes of bolts for two different holes. That was the most difficult part. I live alone and had it assembled by myself in less than 20 min. Everything you need is in the box, including two wrenches for attaching and tightening the bolts; no additional tools are required.

The rack feels extremely solid and sturdy. (Unfortunately, I can't find the weight limit anywhere, so I emailed the company and am awaiting a reply.) The adjustable lift-offs are easily removed and adjusted, as are the safeties. If you exercise alone, you definitely need a safety system like this one. If I rest the barbell on the safeties, it snugly touches my chest, which is perfect as that allows for full range and depth of motion. I can now max out without worrying about getting trapped or injuring myself.

For some reason, the measurements listed for this rack are incorrect. You need AT LEAST 46" of clearance between the collars of any barbell you are using. When I purchased my weights at a local store, I had to get an Olympic bar, because it was the only one that would fit. Some of the smaller 5' and 6' bars will not work with this rack, as the space between collars is too small. That will be a deal breaker for some folks, but for me it's cool because it means it's capable of handling the larger bars and weights.

If you are planning on using this rack with a bench other than the accompanying Best Fitness bench, be sure to take measurements first. The bar across the bottom of this rack could prevent other benches from working successfully. Be sure to consider that when looking for a bench.

All in all, five stars. Very simple, sturdy, efficient design, which is all you really seed with a press rack. One thing I like to have seen is a storage system for weight plates, perhaps across the back legs. It would be nice to have somewhere to store the bigger plates when not using them. Certainly not a deal breaker though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, November 15, 2010

This is good rack for the money. it arrived very quickly with amazon premium shipping service and all parts and pieces were included. Assembly was fairly quick and simple and there are not a bunch of small parts to assemble which is nice. The bar across the bottom doesn't get in the way much except for squatting, because you do have to step over it to get out of the rack. It is a minor annoyance that you learn to work around and can plainly be seen in the design. The safety catch bars are a nice feature, the problem with the safety bars and normal catch bars both is that the rubber is prooly glued and comes off easily. It can still function without the rubber pads of course but causes more grazing obviously. It seems very sturdy however especially considering the footprint. I have loaded up 315lbs + with no wobbly issues. The bench I purchased along with it, Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Bench Series 3.1 (which I have also reviewed) works perfectly with the rack and have not had any issues with the bottom beam design of the rack. Keep in mind not all benches may work well with this design. Overall it is a great rack for the price and I certainly recommend it for a beginner to advanced lifter.

5.0 out of 5 stars best fitness multi press rack, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Best Fitness BFPR10 Multi Press Rack (Sports)
The multi press rack is very sturdy, heavy duty and very functional. I like it because the safety catches work very well and since I workout alone, safety is the top priority. I don't workout with very heavy weights but this unit doesn't shake or move while I use it. If you workout at home like I do, you will enjoy this rack and the price is very reasonable.

Good price. Solid unit. Easy to assemble.

Its a little low for squats, but I'm nearly 6'3. For most folks, this wont be an issue.

If your are looking for a multi press rack, look no rather. Shipped very fast, and putting it together was a breeze. I have used it for about a week and just love it. The multi press is commercial gym quality. Very heavy and strong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad ..., September 16, 2008

The rack itself isn't too bad. It is difficult to do squats in, but you can step out of it. My biggest problem with it is the fact that it is bolted together. No matter how tight you get the bolts, it still has some movement. Overall it's a good starting rack, but my next purchase will be either a power cage or something solid and welded.

This is a great equipment to own. I had it for a week now and it's great. With this I can do squads, shoulder press, incline, decline, and flat bench press. Saved me a lot of money from having to go to the gym in the long run.

I did a LOT of research on squat racks before I decided on this one. The main reason I chose this one is:
a) it looked pretty compact and I have only a small room (most press/squat racks you have to be on one side for bench press, then go around to the other side of the rack to squat...with this one you don't have to do that)
b) the price was very good, and
c) it appeared from the product description that the rack would work with my 5 ft. standard weight set

I rec'd the rack last night. The packaging wasn't too bad, but one of the legs was sticking out of a hole in the corner of the box....it should be packaged better, especially on the corners. Also, there were a couple of places on the rack where the finish was scraped off, wasn't happy about it but I'm not sending this 74 pound package back because of it. Best Fitness should definitely work on their packaging for this product. It's made in China, BTW.

Putting it together was easy...took just 15 minutes with DH helping. The rack seems more than sturdy enough...you need to be facing the rack for squats and you'll need to straddle the crossbar for lunges. Pretty compact for a rack!

The reason I'm only giving the rack 3 stars is because (in my mind at least) the product description is Incorrect when it states that the rack Width is 29.5 inches. It's actually 45 inches (looking at the rack from the front), which means that you need to have an Olympic barbell to use this rack (or a 7 foot standard). I only have a 5 ft standard bar and plates and I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I put the rack together and discovered that it would in NO WAY work with my standard bar setup.

I am going to the local metal shop and having them cut several inches off the middle part of the crossbar and weld it back together, so that I can use the rack w/my set up (which of course will null and void the 3 year warranty darnit)!

So just be aware before buying this product that you need to have an OLYMPIC barbell set up or an 7 ft. standard barbell), as a standard bar setup (5 ft) won't do unless you're willing to hit the local metal shop!

Received this about a month ago - had it unpacked and put together in less than 45 minutes. I chose this rack because space is an issue for me and I am not disappointed. It doesn't take up much room next to a wall and doesn't need to be moved in/out between uses.

After using for about a month, I can say I am very happy with the quality of materials and the design. The bar supports and safety catches are easy to change and accommodate almost any exercise.

Highly recommended product. Particularly at about $100, this is a great investment for any home gym.
