Book Description

March 1997
Alive with Luminous Color, delicate textures and moments of rare beauty, The Best of Flower Painting showcases the ever-fresh interpretations of 133 contemporary painters - including such well-known artists as Jan Kunz, Elizabeth Mowry, Joseph Sheppard and Joyce Pike. Whether inspired by stretches of untamed wildflowers, elegant arrangements, or quiet backyard gardens, each of the 150 floral paintings in this collection is a unique and brilliant expression of its artist's love for the subject. They are wonderfully diverse in medium and style, ranging from precise botanical studies to spontaneous explosions of color and light. Big, blooming reproductions are accompanied by the artists' own stories behind the paintings, in which they share their inspirations, creative concepts and painting techniques.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Kipp, editor of more than 50 art instruction books, has gathered flower paintings from 133 contemporary artists for the best such collection to date. Artists' styles vary from precise botanical studies to lush pastels and oils, light-filled watercolors, and studies influenced by Japanese silk painting. Highly recommended for advanced artists who don't require step-by-step demonstrations; for the beginner, see Rachel Rubin Wolf's Basic Flower Painting Techniques in Watercolor (North Light, 1996).

This review is from: The Best of Flower Painting: A Celebration of More than 150 of Today's Best Floral Paintings in all Mediums (Hardcover)
This book is a collection of flower paintings by different artists. It is beautiful to look it. The artists describe the technique they used, their materials, and the process of the painting. I find it enjoyable and liked the idea that it had many mediums. A nice gift.
