BEST FOOT FORWARD by Michele Sudler introduces the Perkins family consisting of the siblings Tonya, Cindy, Cecelia and Vince. At the opening of the book, the family is preparing for their annual family gathering, which will take place at the youngest Perkins' home, Tonya. Tonya is an author of short stories and a recluse. Because she will not leave her home, her family has agreed to bring the party to her, much to her dismay. Tonya developed agoraphobia three years prior when she was involved in a violent act with her boyfriend, who she assumes is dead.

For three years Jamier Lambert has been in love with Tonya without her knowledge and somehow ends up renting the house right next door. Jamier is a fraternity brother of Tonya's brother, and the family is ecstatic that she is taking steps to allow others into her life and possibly shed her phobia. However, sister Cecelia, who is a police detective, is not thrilled. Is Jamier who he says he is? Are his intentions with Tonya noble or sinister? These are the questions that plague the story until the climatic end.

BEST FOOT FORWARD is a romance novel filled with intrigue and mystery. As the facts are revealed so are the goals, both past and present. The details of the crimes committed and the duties forced upon the characters are gradual but not mundane. The author does a wonderful job with the dialogue between the characters. Dialogue which is captivating, detailed, realistic and humorous. The depth of the Perkins family's love and support for each other is second to none and Sudler depicts this in a cultured fashion. These are people that we all know and relate to on a daily basis, which brings the story home. Her use of imagery of persons, places and things is distinct, allowing you to be amongst the action.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Concept...Unexpected Ending, July 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Best Foot Forward (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
Michele Sudler weaves quite an INTRIGUING concept with "Best Foot Forward"...I enjoyed the characters and the issues they each faced throughout...the romance between the main characters is instant, HOT & SPICY...and the little bit of suspense keeps me turning the pages...I guess I was so CAUGHT UP that as I was reading the last chapter, I didn't even realize it was the last chapter...so when I got to the last page...I was like WTH...the ending although BELIEVABLE...it kinda left me hanging and it was TOTALLY unexpected...guess I just expected the usual HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER for Tonya and Jaimer...I hope she'll give us a follow-up story about the Perkins family and their circle friends.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was Ok, August 18, 2009

Michele Sudler delivers a story about a woman trying to recover from a tragedy. Tonya's former boyfriend is snatched off the street and is believed to have been killed. She becomes a recluse and refuses to even let the sun in her house.
Jaimer was the agent responsible for getting her boyfriend into the witness protection program. He feels guilty for the part he played in her boyfriends disappearance and is also in love with Tonya.
The story follows Tonya on the road to recovery with the help and support of Jaimer. When the truth comes out and Tonya discovers Jaimer's part in Howard's disappearance their budding relationship threatens to crumble.
This story was pretty good, but the ending kinda leaves you hanging thinking there's a chapter missing. I was left disappointed.
