5.0 out of 5 stars Friends Vol 1: No Commercials, No VCR Eaten Tapes, April 14, 2001
By
Mr. JKW "jkw" (Honolulu, Hawai'i) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Best of Friends, Vol. 1 (DVD)
The first of two volumes, this DVD collects the first top 5 of the top 10 episodes of Friends as rated by the fans. Here are the five episodes in this volume:

1. Pilot (9/22/94). THE very first episode of Friends where we meet the whole gang. Runaway bride Rachel returns to become Monica's roommate.

2. The One With Two Parts (3/2/95). Two-part episode where Ross confronts his anxiety over becoming a dad, Monica and Rachel meet two cute doctors from the ER (guest stars those guys from ER), Joey dates Phoebe's twin Ursula and Ross' monkey causes havoc.

3. The One With All the Poker (2/23/95). A battle of the sexes as the girls challenge the guys to poker.

4. The One Where Ross Finds Out (11/9/95). Rachel admits her feelings for Ross after her jealousy over Julie and Ross' decision to have a cat. Also, Monica works out Chandler to death.

5. The One With The Prom Video (2/1/96). Classic flashback episode to high school. A video of Rachel and Monica getting ready for the Prom is the catalyst to Ross and Rachel's first "get together."

Exclusive DVD features: Cast bios, the Rembrandt's "I'll Be There For You" music video, plus additional footage for each episode. (Honestly, I can't tell the difference...)

Here's my quick rundown:

Good: NO COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The DVD features were solid. The Cast bios were a great and interesting read. The Rembrandt video was pretty cool too. Definitely a plus.

So-so: The additional footage? Me personally, I can't really tell the difference but I guess that makes it a plus.

Bad: Nothing!!!

I like the fact that they released these episodes on DVD. The replay value, like most sitcoms, is awesome. It's just like watching Friends syndicated reruns on your local station but without the commercials and with a better picture. Personally, I think the DVD was a good investment to your DVD collection. Unlike taping your favorite episodes off the air, the DVD won't get "eaten" from constant replay.

Must have for a Friends fan? Not necessarily -- but it definitely won't hurt J

Recommended.

I have to agree with the guy from Oz! Wait until Warner release the whole lot! I live in the UK, and we can get all the episodes of Friends from seasons 1 to 6 on dvd. Each disc contains 8 episodes! Season 7 is being released in March 2001. I think this disc is a bit of a con! Sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Friends, Volume 1, February 16, 2002
This review is from: The Best of Friends, Vol. 1 (DVD)
I love this DVD! It has five great episodes of everyone's favourite stars, Pheobie, Rachel, Monica, Ross, Joey and Channler. Here is a review of all of the episodes:

1. Pilot --- This is the first ever episode of friends where Rachel runs away from her wedding and lives with Monica.
2. The One With Two Parts --- Ross realises for the first time that he's becoming a dad. He gets really nervous, meanwhile Rachel sprains her ankle, and she goes to the hospital with Monika, but she doesn't have insurance, so they both trade places, and then they go out on dates with the two doctors.
3. The One With All the Poker --- The girls learn how to play poker and they have a big poker tournament.
4. The One Where Ross Finds Out --- Ross finds out that Rachel loves him, and she is jelous of him and his girlfriend Julie because they are getting a cat. Monica is also trying to make Channler lose weight, and he's getting sick of it.
5. The One With The Prom Video --- It's a flashback to high-school days where Monica and Rachel are getting ready for the prom.
PLUS!: Bonus material, and no adverts (commercials)
This is a Friends Fan essential. Buy it now.
