George Formby was sort of the British Cliff "Ukulule Ike" Edwards. He was a master of the banjo uke and the novelty song idiom. Formby's beloved favorites are all on this recording including, WHEN I'M CLEANING WINDOWS, WITH MY LITTLE UKULELE IN MY HAND, LEANING ON THE LAMP POST (later recorded by Herman's Hermits in the 1960's)and I TOLD MY BABY WITH THE UKULELE. Formby demonstrates excellent comic timing and inflection as well as some brilliant ukulele bridges during the songs. The off-color nature of many of the songs is typical of vaudeville with the double-entendre in full bloom and Formby a master of it. The quality of the recording is very good. Great music from the golden age of the ukulele!

I had never heard of George Formby until I heard his song "Leaning on a Lamppost" and now I love him. He is a classic English Musician aka from the good ole days. He sings and plays the ukulele and the combination is magic.

I nice introduction of George Formby for me. You will end up humming these songs to yourself in a Lancashire accent. The CD is missing "Imagine Me In The Maginot Line", which is the song that I first heard about George Formby.

Incredibly good & incredibly obscure talent, hear him once & you'll come back for more
