I thought this was a deal too good to be true. It was in a way. While the book was exactly as promised, new, and lots of good recipes, it apparently was an earlier edition. I guess the end result is I was pleased with the recipes and the history notes. I'm still making some recipes from it and so far all have been good.

5.0 out of 5 stars love my new cookbook, December 28, 2009
This review is from: Best of the Best from Georgia: Selected Recipes from Georgias Favorite Cookbooks (Plastic Comb)
This is a really good cookbook filled with alot of tasty dishes. My favorite so far is the broccoli rice casserole on pg. 108 with the water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. I made this for christmas eve and everyone went nuts over it. Another really good one that I made is Debbie's Disappearing banana pudding. Here is a recipe for the banana pudding just so you can get an idea of the type of wonderful recipes this book has.

Custard:
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. flour
dash salt
3 eggs yolks separated (save whites for meringue)
1 c. milk
1c. Half & Half
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 oz. white chocolate
1 16 oz. box vanilla wafers
6 really ripe bananas

Mix sugar, flour and salt in top of double boiler. Blend in egg yolks, milk, and half & half. Cook uncovered, over boiling water, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened with no flour clumps.
Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and white chocolate. Spread a small amount of custard on bottom of casserole dish. Cover with layer of wafers, and a layer of sliced bananas. Continue to layer wafers, bananas, and custard, ending with custard.

Meringue:

3 egg whites
1/4 c. sugar

Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, beating until peaks are stiff, but not dry. Spoon on top of custard, spreading to cover entire surface and sealing well to edges. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until peaks are browned. Cool slightly and then refrigerate several hours until chilled. Serves about 8.

This is a great cookbook. I went to Savannah in October so I wanted to get this cookbook. I have been collecting the cookbooks from this series for the states I have visited. I love this series as the recipes come from many local cookbooks and regions of the state. Highly recommended.
