Enjoyable, forgotten pop/rock from the '80s,
By Brad (CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of Glass Tiger (Audio CD)
Glass Tiger was one of those melodic pop/rock bands that popped out a few hits in the second half of the '80s and then was never heard from again. They only actually put out three albums of original material, each one progressively less popular. When you pull the highlights off of those three albums onto one compilation, you have a very solid, enjoyable collection of melodic songs. For sure, not each and every track stands out as remarkable, but plenty of them are excellent. All of the biggest hits are enjoyable. Their first and biggest hit "Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone" is a great anthem that leads off the collection. "Someday" is a pretty ballad that was also a top 10 hit. "I Will Be There" and "I'm Still Searching" were the only other top 40 songs this band had, and they are both catchy rockers. Other highlight tracks include the rocking "Animal Heart"--I wish this band did more tracks at this pace. "Thin Red Line" and "Blinded" are other enjoyable rockers, and tracks like "My Song" and certainly "My Town" are good slower paced tracks. I guess the biggest problem with this band is that they didn't have a distinctive enough sound or personality to most of their music to give them a lasting career. Their sound to me is best described as melodic, mid-paced guitar rock. Nonetheless, I encourage fans of '80s pop/rock to give this a listen. Definitely an enjoyable collection overall that is worth a listen.

Definitely Best of the BEST from Glass Tiger!!!!!,
By Thomas Hollingsworth (Palm Beach Gardens, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best of Glass Tiger (Audio CD)
I have both The Thin Red Line and Diamond Sun but the sound from the CD is definitely better than my old antiquated cassettes from the 80's, which is when I originally bought the albums. The songs brought me back to Grad Nite at Walt Disney World 1987 which is the first time I heard Glass Tiger LIVE. This CD sounds just like they did when they played live. This is a definite album for any music lover who likes techno rock from the 80's with a little Gaelic lyrics thrown in for fun. Their songs are infectious from the favorites Don't forget me When I'm Gone to I'm Still Searching. You find yourself turning the music way up and singing the songs yourself.

A Great Blend of Old and New,
By Keira (Lansing, MI) - See all my reviews

I just can't help but be amazed at the great stuff that Glass Tiger has done over the years. This is a band that is not afraid to try new music styles and experiment with the music of other cultures. One of the things I like best about them is their obvious enjoyment of what they're doing and their refusal to make music just to make money. You can tell that the music they make is for themselves and those of like mind. That said, I can say that as a longtime fan, I was very eager to buy this album and get it home.I enjoyed this album very much. I was impressed by the wide variety of music types represented here, as well as the fact that they included quite a few songs that were only released in Canada or never released at all. This album was obviously a tribute to their fans and had a lot of thought put into it. Even though I have their first 2 albums, Thin Red Line and Diamond Sun, I bought this as soon as it came out just to hear the music I hadn't heard. And I was not at all disappointed. "After the Dance" has become one of my all time favorite songs. I guess the biggest endorsement I can make for this album is that I've owned it for several years and still haven't shelved it. It will always be a favorite. If you are a fan, definitely get this album, the rare songs are some of their best work yet. If you are looking to become a fan, this is a great album to start with.
