Fans who are used to the more polished/refined songs from the latter part of Googoosh's singing career, might not enjoy "Kavir"/"Desert" as much as they would expect. In this 14 song collection, you have some of this musical pioneer's earliest -- and somewhat raw -- songs which, if one listens carefully, are an indication of the richness that is to come. Most of these songs are from the late 60's and early 70's and truly show how Googoosh (now age 48), along with Shahyar Ghanbari (lyricist), Ardalan Sarfaraz (lyricist), Iraj Jennatti-Atayi (lyricist), Hossein Shama'eezadeh (song writer), Babak Afshar (song writer), and along with the pop-master Varujzan (arranger/composer) -- evolved and matured to usher in a new era of contemporary music in Iran. If you are a true lover of great pop-music, you will like this for all it's attempts, for all of it's rough edges. And just think about it -- Dariush Eghbali (another great Iranian singer) was hardly singing (or if he was he was singing other vocalists' songs) at this same time.

Volume's 5 and 6 have the most BEAUTIFUL vocals with a few of them showing a younger, more immature, yet pleasing voice and the rest with a mature, full bodied tone that makes you emote. These CD's were my introduction to Persian music and they both are truly inspiring to the singer in me! (Anyone know where I can get a Persian/English dictionary?) Try it, buy it, you'll like it... enjoy!

I ordered this CD based on five star in Amazon but the sound is very low quality, looks like recorded in one concert

Googoosh is without a doubt the most loved Iranian (Persian) singer in the history of the Iranian music. She is well known and admired throughout Central Asia. Although she has not been singing for the past 20 years or so, her music has been unforgetable and everlasting. You cannot go wrong with any of her CD's. If you have never listened to Iranian music before, you may want to do a search in your web browser. There are many sites that provide Iranian music in Real Audio and other formats that you can listen to.
