Biography

Gordon Lightfoot is a prodigious Canadian singer-songwriter who incorporates elements of country and pop into his style.

He came from a family who encouraged his talent and he sang in church as a boy before studying music at College in the 50s. i cant beleive that a "best of" album wouldn't contain, sundown,if you could read my mind and the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald. surely these songs would be 3 of his best of. a good selection none the less, but it was dissapointing not to hear 3 favourites on the same album. david

When i saw this online, i also saw another review posted by a david, he was dissapointed that sundown and if you could read my mind where not on here. I should point out that this is a best of his original work from his first 5 records, songs that clearly established him in the industry, and songs which i have never grown tired of listening too.

This is the finest collection of early Gordon Lightfoot music. Anyone who has ever lost love, or found love, or hit the road can relate to the feelings expressed in these songs. His voice is young and strong. The lyrics lacks the poetic beauty of much of his later work. This is more than made up for as he sings straight from the heart. I listen to this CD over and over. You sure can't beat the price.
