AWFUL,

Even if you LOVE these singers, stay away from this CD. Some of the songs are not the original recordings and the one that are were pulled from terrible tapes and poorly mixed. However, it will make a good trash can filler.

Not the Original Recording,
By A Customer
This review is from: Best of Great Girl Singers (Audio CD)
You Belong to Me by Jo Stafford had one of the best "first notes" of any song ever! It's a tragedy that this original recording has been tampered with & "redigitalized" or whatever they call it. Never try to fix something that was perfect. The big question is how can we acquire the original version?

Great Introduction to these Fantastic Girl Singers!,

I am puzzled and dismayed by the 2 negative reviews of this CD! These recordings may not be the "original" recordings released in the 40s and 50s, I don't know because I am probably younger than the previous reviewers, but I do know that this CD has an excellent sound quality, wonderful song selection, lush arrangements, strong vocals and overall is a great introduction to some ladies who are in danger of being forgotten by music lovers! I was familiar with some of these songs such as The Tennessee Waltz, but I had never heard the Patti Page version, just other cheesier, weaker versions. She really puts her full voice and emotion into it, making it a far superior song than my original impression of it. I had never heard anything by Margaret Whiting so the 2 jewels included on this CD, A Tree in the Meadow and Slippin' Around with Jimmy Wakely, were excellent finds! I got a chance to compare the Andrews Sisters with the McGuire Sisters and decide who I liked better of the two girl groups with the silky harmonies (no fair telling!). I discovered Kay Starr who I never had heard before and has a sound very similar to Dinah Washington, very soulful. Teresa Brewer could cut glass with the clarity of her voice on 'Till I Waltz Again With You. Fill the CD out with the immortals Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, Jo Stafford, and the always sexy Peggy Lee, you can't beat this CD!
