Great White = One great, underated hard rock 80's group!,

Let me just say how much of a Great White fan i am. While many people say that Whitesnake was the 80's incarnation of Led Zeppelin, i disagree and say that Great White was Zeppelin reincarnated with great blues based rock that still holds up till this day. It is unfair to call them a hair band because they were part of putting Southern California rock on the map. Led by the awesome vocals of Jack Russell, truly one great vocalist who mixes Robert Plant's falsetto with Ian Gillinas's powerhouse delivery just perfect. Not to mention a great back up band that includes Mark Kendall on guitar, Michael Lardie on piano, and Audie Desbrow on drums. They still rock to this day. This collection is packed with hard hitting anthems " Step On You", "Big Goodbye", a redone version of "Face the Day" , and the classic "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". Also, contains the great ballads such as " House of Broken Love", "Afterglow", "Rock Me", and "Save all your Love". A great compilation from start to finish, and truly one hell of a band. This is one shark that packs one hell of a bite.

The beauty of this album is that it isn't "Once Bitten Twice Shy" from beginning to end. In fact, OBTS is my LEAST favorite on the album, which is saying a lot since I do like the song. This album showcases the Great White that radio didn't or won't play. If you like hard rock ballads and flat-out hard rockers, all with more than a hint of blues, then you will love this album. "Rock Me" in itself is worth the price. Seriously. This was my first GW album, purchased in 1993, and I have since bought all of their others. This is a great intro, but be prepared to buy other GW after you give this album a listen. Listening hint: When playing "Rock Me" and "Face the Day", TURN IT UP!

Surprisingly solid album,

I bought this CD from Columbia House for $.99 after putting off purchasing it for a while due to uncertainty. I only knew a couple of the songs on this album before I got it, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good every song is. In particular, tracks 1 through 6 are great--the album kicks off with the high-energy of "Step On You" and doesn't slow down until the mellow closing track, "Afterglow." This album rocks with attitude. A great effort for those of us who are big fans of 80's heavy metal. My only complaint, like others before me, is the omission (?) of "The Angel Song" from the album Twice Shy.

You will be glad you added these hits to your collection,

Great White had some great hits, and this CD has some of their most memorable. I would have expected a few more tacks on a "best of" CD, but the ones they have are excellent. My favorites are Step On You, All Over Now, Save Your Love, Big Goodbye, Rock Me (excellent for cranking up), and Once Bitten Twice Shy. This CD will fit in well with any good rock collection.

A Sample Of , Missing Some Of Their Best,

Often thrown in with the so called hair bands of the eighties. But Great White is a much more special band than many of the ones that died in the wake of grunge. GW went on to make some of their Best albums in the 90's .This compilation has some gems, including one of the best hard rock songs of all time "Rock Me". Buy this if you are interested in getting a sample, and then search out their other albums, like TWICE SHY, the live album STAGE, and the acoustic SAIL AWAY.

The best of "Great White" is exactly that!!!!! I wish I had bought it long ago. "Old Rose Motel," "Rock Me," and "Save Your Love" are the best from this collection. I'd like to know why the didn't include "The Angel Song" from "Twice Shy." All of their albums are pretty good, and this one is the best of the best!!!

(Some of) The Best of Great White,

Released in 1993, this album features Great White "mega" hits that you've heard on the radio today, and that were all over MTV and the radio in the late 80s. If you are a fan of some of these songs of course you'll want to pick this up. If this is going to be your first taste of Great White, as it was mine as well, then you too should pick this up. If you are looking for a comprehensive overview of GW from 1983-1993 then you aren't in the right place.
That being said, if you know the band at all you know that there are so many songs lacking from this CD that, to use a tired cliche, is a crime. And it is. It's no surprise Capitol records chose to focus on the GW albums released exclusively on their label, but they really didnt even get that right. They must have thought CDs didnt exsist yet (remember, 1993) and thought that they didnt have any more room on here. You have 80 minutes on a CD. Some of these songs are 7 and 8 minutes ok but not all of them are, and I find it hard to believe only 10 tracks could be "crammed" on here. So, credit where credit is due, you have some great cuts on here, you get a nice story written in the book reviewing the band's live act, and a collage of photos and GW periphanalia that all looks pretty cool. Big problem? Thats right, the songs! Some suggestions? "Heartbreaker", "Shot in the Dark" ("Face the Day" is a great track but what you couldn't tack on a track that WASN'T a cover tune. That's another problem..the focus on tunes that the band DIDN'T write...baffling...yet I digress.) "Desert Moon", "Cold Hearted Lovin", "Stick It", "Hold On", and I could go on and on but then you might find this review a tad boring. This, I'm pretty sure, was the band's first gretest hits CD, and they go on to have others, each with varying degrees of thought put into them. First time with Great White? Pick this up. I own this and I still enjoy it alot. Looking for more? Keeping looking. 7/10

This was the first Great White cd I bought and it got me hooked on the band. If you don't have any of their stuff this would be a great album to start with. A lot of great songs. Of course, you may want to check out their other stuff as well. You just can't go wrong with this band.
