More About the Author

If there is a Guinness World Record for "Most Attorneys Taught Stress Reduction in One Room," I probably set it when I taught 400 lawyers to meditate in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Palm Springs.

My practice of meditation began by accident and for practical, not spiritual reasons: I was a stressed-out "One-L"--a first year law student in New York looking for a medication-free way to stay calm and focus on an incredible caseload. I began to meditate and the results were amazing: My grades got better--and I got calmer. win-win all the way.

I continued to meditate throughout a highly successful--and high-pressure--career as an attorney and producer for major corporations like Young & Rubicam, Paramount Pictures and Universal-TV. But little did I realize that my business and meditation experience would result in my creating 8 Minute Meditation, the program TIME magazine calls "The most American form of meditation yet."

My goal for 8 Minute Meditation was to provide anybody with a simple program that could lower stress, increase focus--and change their lives. Now in it's 10th printing, the book is a perennial Amazon bestseller and my Guided Meditation CD (available at CDbaby.com)is also very popular. 8 Minute Meditation has helped over 100,000 people transform their lives.

In 2010, in response to many requests for an 8 Minute Meditation program that would specifically address stress, I created 8 Minute Stress Relief. It's a brand-new 8 Minute Meditation program specifically geared to empower people to reduce their stress level, on the spot, wherever they are.

And oh yeah, why the pic of me in the funny hat? 'Cause I love fly-fishing! The greatest meditation there is. This was me at Henry's Fork, Idaho, catching rainbow trout---and of course, releasing them :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Few things made a difference in my life., May 5, 1999
This review is from: The Best Guide to Meditation (Paperback)
One of them is meditation. When I tried it a few years ago, it was clear my life improved in many different ways. Wanting to try it once more and to adopt it as part of my life, I was looking for a book as free of esoterism, cults, new-age fads and the like as possible. Although this is somewhat a new-age book, it fulfilled my basic expectations. It presents an (although not detailed, this is an introduction book) overview of various kinds of meditations (western, eastern, modern, traditional). It is a practice-oriented book, after each topic you'll find a simple or simplified exercise. Lots of quotations, not the usual "after the night the sun rises," but well chosen paragraphs that illustrate the topics being explained. No guru is in charge here, you don't have to follow rules and you are free to choose the meditation that best suits you. The language is plain and the layout makes it quite comfortable to read. I almost quit reading it when the author talked about the doubts that may arise about the practice of meditation in a very critical way, like we were supposed to believe (=have faith) in his words. He must have forgotten that later on, he quotes a great master saying that doubts are important and should not be disregarded in the learning process. Other than that, I feel safer now to choose what kind of meditation I want to study and practice, no longer lost in a jungle of buzzwords.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Meditation Guide EVER., April 21, 1999
By A Customer
I have wanted to start meditating to help with my depression. The other books I have read on the subject were confusing or hard to understand. Most were doing it through religion. This book enables the reader to keep his or her faith and helps to intergrate that into the meditation practice. It is very easy to read and understand. I was able to start meditating right away. I am pleased with the results so far. I now meditate regularly. I loved this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars my 3rd book on meditation, September 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best Guide to Meditation (Paperback)
i had to muddle through 2 other books before finding this one. it answers all the questions i had, like "what if i get an itch? can i scratch it?" and "i just had an insight. can i stop and write it down?" the meditation exercises given actually work! to be honest, i'm not through reading this book, and i may never be. when i finish reading it cover to cover, i intend to consult it regularly.
