Carrell, an authority on home maintenance and repair and author of Super Handyman's Encyclopedia of Home Repair Hints (Prentice Hall, 1971), offers 3000 of his best tips in a clipped, staccato style. Arranged in categories like "Quick Fixes," "Pesky Problems," and "Furniture Care," his advice focuses on both indoor and outdoor household problems as well as recreation, car care, even garage sale advertising. There are sections on how to save energy and "New Uses for Old Stuff." Although essentially serious, Carrell gives humorous advice on how to keep one's hair from being splattered while painting, and suggests ways to protect potted plants from the intrusion of pet cats. He also illustrates the book with 200 of his own line drawings. Broad in scope, this is recommended for all public libraries.
