Eureka! an edit-free Greatest Hits!,
By
This review is from: Best of Hootie & The Blowfish 1993-2003 (Audio CD)
None of the hits have been edited from their full length album versions on this compilation, and all the top 40 hits from their two big albums are accounted for. The only song that is not the same length as on the original CD is "Tucker's Town." On the album version, after the song ends, there is a pause of silence, and then this 30 second accapella part comes on. It's not particularly of any use to make the song better, and it's omitted on this disc.

Finally Hootie and the Blowfish have released their greatest hits disk. And the track list is solid up and down, all the big hits from cracked rear view are here, also the big hits from Fairweather Johnson are represented, also i was truley impressed the gorgeous track "Innocence" off their newest studio album was included, as most of you know record companies sometimes leave off the newest material on the greatest hits packages. It is a solid compilation of HATB hits and powerful songs from the very unfortunate unpopular follow albums. perfect for the novice Hootie fan. The only reason for a 4 star rating is that I would have liked to see "Can't Find The Time To Tell You" from the Me Myself and Irene soundtrack make it to the list. But it still can earn a worthy place in your cd Collection

2 good songs missing, some duds here,

Where is Hannah Jane and Drowning? Some of the later stuff pales in comparison to the quality of songs on their first two albums. Buy Cracked Rear View and Fairweather Johnson and you will have ALL of their good stuff! Hey, if 1996 ever rolls around again, these guys may become cool again.

Best of the Blowfish,

This review is from: Best of Hootie & The Blowfish 1993-2003 (Audio CD)
We lived in Columbia SC during the 1990s and got an overdose of Hootie and the boys. There was a definite love hate relationship with the music-we loved the songs but hated hearing them every five minutes on the radio, and eventually stopped listening to Hootie all together. However, time has indeed been a friend to Hootie and to the listener...
Last night Hootie and the Blowfish performed at a charity concert in Greenville SC. They were fantastic! We all acted like the twenty year old kids we once were-dancing, singing every word at the top of our lungs, and loving every minute of the walk down memory lane. I had to go out and get this CD. It does not disappoint. It has all of the songs that saturated the SC airways many moons ago. Still upbeat. Still great for singing along. And as a bonus, it is a CD that even the curtain climbers can listen to.

Unfortunately, Hootie and the Blowfish will be remembered only for a handful of hit songs back in the 90's by most of the general public. Truth be told, this has got to be one of the best bands out there today. These guys make great music, plain and simple. No gimmicks, no dance routines, no songs made to go along with a video, blah blah etc etc. What you see is what you get. This cd contains a wide range of their best stuff from all of their studio albums, and also includes a new song (Goodbye Girl) that was on a soundtrack for the movie of the same name. The material from Cracked Rear View will be very familiar, but the rest of the songs on this disc will give you an idea of the talent of this band just in case you haven't heard their more recent albums. In this day and age of "video stars" and soft drink endorsing mega-artists, it is nice to see a band that truly cares about the music. Put this one on and let it go from beginning to end.

This album is like taking a trip down memory lane. I was 10 years old when Cracked Rear View came out. They were one of the bands I really got into when I was at that age where I started to seriously get into music. With their albums apanning over practically all of my youth, I have a lot of memories associated with so many of these songs. Its great to have a lot of the really special ones all on one cd like this. I hope this album does well sell wise too. The guys deserve it. This really is a great collection of songs. For people who didn't stick with the music after Cracked Rear View or Fairweather Johnson, you will be very surprised by some of these songs and just how great they are. This is a band who continues to make great music and if you were once a fan, I highly reccomend checking out their new album, getting this one, and rediscovering a great band.

This cd is very enjoyable to listen to. Upbeat, bluesy with a hint of rock. Hooties' soulful vocals are always a pleasure to listen to.

OK, I think that is a very good compilation of Blowfish's songs. I just miss one of my favourite songs from Cracked Rear View, that remembers my college times: Hannah Jane. I know this in not a gratest hit but sincerely I'm sure it's one of the best songs written by Darius Rucker and the boys.

Great Edition to the Hootie Line-Up,

This is an excellent release from Darius and the guys. The Blowfish do a good job at including their best songs to construct an incredible compilation. While these may be their greatest hits, that doesn't mean these songs are their only good ones. Check out Cracked Rear View, Fairweather Johnson, Musical Chairs, etc. for other Hootie gems, especially the two closing tracks off Cracked Rear View, "Tootie" off Fairweather, and "Home Again" off Chairs. For the casual Hootie listener, though, this collection of material is essential. Keep up the good work, guys! Can't wait for the next album!

Many people forgot about this band about 7 years ago. What they didn't realize is that they continued to make great music and are still doing it. I was one of those people until I decided to buy there self-titled album last year. I was pleasantly surprised and it was the best CD I bought last year. I have again become a huge fan of the band and this disc is great for anyone who ever enjoyed listening to their music. Buy this album, you'll love it. By the way, they are a blast to see in concert!
