Finally found it!,

I listened to immaculate fools at the beginning of the 80's in Europe. Their first LP was called Immaculate Fools, following the band's name and one of their hits: Immaculate Fools. I have tried several years to find this record and apparently it was erased from the face of the earth. It only appeared in a recopilation called Smart Music for Smart People, which again was discontinued. A simple song, with wonderful sounds... nothing too elaborated, pure beauty. And an excelent sample of great 80's music.

IMMACULATE FOOLS: "A Smart Band For Smart People!",

Definitely, 80's have been an extraordinary muisc era. A great sample of it are Immaculate Fools (stars by themselves), it's hard to believe how luckless they are about selling their records, and also their fans in order to get them (included me!) I've been looking for their records for several years!. I agree with the idea they are one of the finest bands of rock-pop, thanks to a great Mexican radio station called "Rock 101" (unfortunately dissapeared 7 years ago) many people had the chance to meet them, and a lot of became their fans. I hope we can get all of their records, because they are Art Pieces more than a simple item. It would be nice to get in any format their first record "Nothing Means Nothing" (including their hit "hearts of fortune") and also some rarities or live presentations. I'M SURE THEY'RE A GREAT BAND!!!...Finally I'll get their treasures...

While this is certainly not a best of The Immaculate Fools, it certainly is an excellent album. What it is, is the band's second release titled: Tragic Comedy with their first single "Immaculate Fools" added as the last track. The band's trademark sound was dependent on lead singer Kevin Weatherill's distinctive vocals and lyrical style. For those not familiar with their sound, he's reminiscent of The Psychedelic Fur's Richard Butler, but even grittier. Their sound, although rooted in typical 80s production, is more acoustic, stripped down and certainly melancholy. Their is certainly plenty going on with layers of chiming guitars and a solid rhythm section but it's the moody sadness that grabs the attention. "So Much Here" and "Wish You Were Here" are the standout tracks for me with their lilting melodies while " One Minute" and "Don't Drive the Hope From My Heart" could have easily been part of MTV's canon of classic 80s rock.

worth it for one song "tragic comedy",

I would have to say tho the band did go on to make a much better album "toy shop" (that is if you like The Alarm and other like 80s bands)--this CD is well worth it's price for one of the best unnoticed love songs of the last few decades: "Tragic Comedy". In the hands of any artist of note today this song would be a smash. Maybe Annie Lennox can take this song as she did for No More I Love Yous and give it the proper attention it deserves. It's melancholy and dramatic and the production while dated (it would fit in perfectly on a Pretty In Pink soundtrack or something like that) is really quite touching. If you're a sucker for a pretty pop song ("Can't Cry Hard Enough" and "Every Time You Go Away" also would fall under this banner) even tho you tend to wretch at the genre in general then please proceed.
