Detroit 60s Garage, Pop and Soul Super-Gems!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Best of Impact Records (Audio CD)
A great collection of the rare sides of Harry Balk's Impact Records label was given the CD treatment by Collectables Records.Conceived and compiled by Jerry Schollenberger, this package boasts 25 super sides from 1966-1968. Acts include some of Detroit's finest. From The Human Beings and The Boss Five, to The Shades of Blue and The Wheels. Included in the set is the big Shades of Blue hit, "Oh, How Happy," presented in true Stereo. The Wheels' uptempo cover of "Dancing In The Street" is exellent, produced by Harry Balk. From great early Detroit punk rock to girl groups, this digital offering is very well rounded and well presented. Complete with informative liner notes, this set is highly recommended. If you love Del Shannon's Big Top, Amy, Mala, and Twirl sides, you will most definitely enjoy The Best Of Impact Records. See also the excellent "QUILL Records Story: Best of the Chicago Garage Bands."

The Power & Variety of Detroit's IMPACT Records!,

This review is from: The Best of Impact Records (Audio CD)
As a hard-core collector of Sixto D. Rodriguez, I was astonished to find his "I'll Slip Away" on Collectables' "Best Of Impact" CD. Rodriguez later generated the classic "Cold Fact" LP on Sussex, but it all started on Impact. This CD contains, pop, soul and solid Garage Rock--and I don't mean maybe! I particularly enjoy The Sixpence cuts. All in all, an essential piece of music history!
