Dr. Weiner's book concisely and effectively delivers fundamental truths and essential lessons about positive parenting practices. As a seasoned child psychologist, I don't believe that new and expecting parents could make a wiser investment._Howard Savin, Ph.D.

So few people of my generation grew up in households where social strategies were anything beyond sharing toys and not biting so a book such as "The Best Investment" is very enlightening. It is not judgmental about the reader's current parenting skills but instead welcomes the reader into a dialog.

Personally, I found the book very valuable. In part, my reaction is was strictly ego based as it is validating for me to see parenting principles that I already embrace. Even more valuable for me was to see the material presented in a conscious organized framework with specific tools and strategies (for example the self hug and redirected verification).

The book has made me more aware of the opportunities that arise on a daily basis to have meaningful dialogs with my kindergartener. It is a gem.

My daughter is now a boisterous teenager blossoming into a young woman, and I hope I successfully embraced at least a few of the strategies outlined in this book while she was growing up. And when I get frustrated, as every parent of a teenager can be, I take solace in the definition of a "Meaningful Parent": ... One who does simply their best, free of perfection.

I recommend this to every grandparent and new parent as well as those like me who need a little encouragement!

The Best Investment: Unlocking the Secret of Social Success for Your Child, By Dr. Andrea Weiner, is a book that will assist any person to foster emotional awareness of children. I work with adolescents with sever emotional disturbances at a lockdown facility in NJ. I strongly approve of the advice given within this easily understood book and wish the parents or guardians of the children I teach/taught had read a copy during the child's more formative years. However, it is never too late. If you have any direct (parents/guardians) or indirect (grandparents, uncles, aunts, teachers, babysitters, neighbors) influence in a child's life, please obtain a copy and read it on his/her behalf. This is an excellent book, and much needed. As adults, we sometimes don't recognize that children are not born knowing or understanding what and how they feel. Their emotions are raw and unschooled and unless children are guided by the adults in their lives and shown with love and understanding how to recognize and manage these feelings, they cannot recognize and understand the emotions of others. The story is a charming parable that informs and guides parents, or any one else who deals with children, to understanding that these small people want and need the tools that will help them manage all the feelings that swirl within us every day. This lovely little book would be a great gift for expectant parents, grandparents, educators on all levels, caretakers...in fact, for anyone who wants to make a positive difference in a child's life. If we all learned the lessons that Dr. Weiner lays out the world will be a better, more caring and loving place.

Dr. Andrea Weiner is a master at taking tough parenting ideals and translating them into everyday examples for her readers. Most parents want to do their very best when it comes to raising their children. Unfortunately,many of the tools parents need to do this were never integrated into their own lives. The Best Investment offers new doors of awareness for parents to open and enjoy. Dr. Weiner will take you on an imagined yet realistic journey into the future potential of your child, with specific tools, like pennies, for you to invest and reap over the life of your child. I highly recommend The Best Investment. It should be required reading for all new parents!
