The best indeed!, April 29, 2005
This review is from: The Best of Jaid Black (Paperback)
Jaid Black is one of my favorite erotic romance authors. Her stories are some of the steamiest I have read. And so, I couldn't wait to pick up The Best of Jaid Black. This collection features three of her most popular Ellora's Cave novellas. These novellas are three of the best I've read by Ms. Black. She has earned her nickname Queen of Steam. My favorite novella is Tremors. I love heroes with wounded souls and Fredrik was as wounded and as dark and mysterious as they come. I loved the development of this story and the erotic scenes were smoldering to the max. I liked the whole gothic backdrop as well. The Obsession is my second favorite novella. This one features a rather uninhibited heroine and how she brings out the brazen side of one conservative and sensible lecturer of mathematics. I love this novella because the heroine is the one who takes the reins of seduction and drives the man over the edge with her daring ways. I was a bit confused with the title of the novella though. When I first read the title, I thought I was going to read a dark novella. This story is not dark at all, but it is the most erotic one in the book! My least favorite was Vanished. The premise and opening chapters of the novella did not grab me, but I continued to read on. It turned out to be a good read, but the whole rapist scenario in the first three or so chapters and the heroine's way of coping with the situation were not my favorites. I took away a star because of the aforementioned things. All in all, The Best of Jaid Black is a book I recommend if you're in the mood for some moving love stories coupled with delectable sex scenes that will satisfy you to no end (so to speak). Jaid Black is an author that guarantees a naughty read in more ways than one. I recommend this collection, but I warn you that this is a sheet burner through and through!

Pretty good stories, not the author's best, but I liked them., March 17, 2008
This review is from: The Best of Jaid Black (Paperback)
This book includes three stories by Jaid Black.
3.5 stars for VANISHED.
Lynne gets lost driving on a mountain due to a traffic accident detour. Her car hits a tree and Jesse finds her and tends to her healing. Jesse escaped from prison and has been living in a cabin on the mountain. There is some bondage.
Data:

3 stars for TREMORS.
Only ok. A little bit sad. A Scottish man thinks he is unattractive and he has been a recluse for 10 years. Someone died on his property 10 years earlier, and Marie thinks he may be a murderer. He sees Marie at a museum and is immediately drawn to her. He arranges for her to have a flat tire and come to his home. He then asks her to stay one week.
Data:
Sexual language: erotic. Number of sex scenes: ten. Setting: present day Sweden and Scotland. Copyright: 2001. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.
3 stars for THE OBSESSION.
Quiet, humble math professor meets gorgeous and exciting author Valentina.
CAUTION SPOILER: They have a great weekend together but afterwards they each think the other doesn't want to continue the relationship. This is one of my pet peeves: where conflict is created from vague communication and inaccurate assumptions. Other than that it was a nice story with some good sex scenes and a fulfilling ending.
Data:
Sexual language: erotic. Number of sex scenes: twelve. Setting: present day Scotland. Copyright: 2001. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

REDUNDANT, August 10, 2005
This review is from: The Best of Jaid Black (Paperback)
This is a three story compilation. I bought it in hopes that there would be three different stories included. I found the sex scenes redundant. I was surprised that she used the same verbage verbatim to describe her sex scenes in each of the three novels. Maybe if these stories were not read back to back they would be more tantalizing, but if you've read one you've basically read all three.
