2.0 out of 5 stars Best of not so best..., July 5, 2007

I'm a big fan of Joe Cuba's music which is why I bought this Best of Joe Cuba Sextet, but this best of album released by Charly is not so great.

The songs are of low quality (to the point of being muffled). They even went as far as trying to remix the original songs such as Bang Bang (one of my favorite Joe Cuba songs), which came out poorly. Advice to record distributors trying to make a quick buck with best of albums, don't mess with original classics. If so, then make it clear to the consumer and don't try to pass it off as a Best of album featuring classic "originals". Call it the "Best of poorly done re-mixes done on the cheap album".

Oye Como Va is the only cut missing from this album. A fantastic buy...two CDs...36 cuts. I am a Tito Puente fanatic but I am unable to think of any two of his albums that surpass this double set by Joe Cuba. Too bad there are no samples to listen to but if you like to dance and are anywhere near in agreement with my following likes in latin music, don't give it a 2nd thought. Purchase this baby.

Besides Puente, my preferences are Malo, Ridriguez (Pete and Tito), Eddie Cano, Johnny Martinez, Willie Bobo, and Poncho Sanchez. At the other end of my spectrum would be Prez Prado, Xavier Cougat, Rene Bloch and anything that smacks of commercialism.

With this album, Joe Cuba epitomizes the 'feel' that is contained in latin music.
