This is not his best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Best Of John Conlee, The (Audio CD)
I don't get it. Normally, I would give the Best of John Conlee a five star rating without thinking twice. I love this guy's songs and I love his style, but like where is Rose Colored Glasses? OK, I know a lot of people consider it to have been played to death and something of a cliche, but it should still be on a recording of his best songs, don'tcha think? More importantly, where is I Don't Remember Loving You? This is, without a doubt, his best song ever. It's much better than Common Man for goodness sake. There are some good songs on here, but it's just not complete.

The most underrated artist in country music's storied past!,
By manning6@aol.com (BAKERSFIELD, CA) - See all my reviews

John Conlee has a voice that will sooth the roughest soul. His voice is more powerful than the cry of a steel guitar. My twenty something generation of country music fans should not miss out on this treasure from the past. His story telling ability will bring a smile while his crooning draws a tear. A must buy!

Not Much Curb Appeal Here!,
By Donald R. Skaggs (Fort Worth, Texas USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Best Of John Conlee, The (Audio CD)
The CD "Best of John Conlee" represents the worst of Mike Curb and his organization. What Curb gives with his right hand-a low price; he takes back with the left hand in questionable materials. It isn't outright misrepresentation. Labeling something "Best Of" implies that someone had to make a value judgment on what's best. "Greatest Hits" on the other hand is something that can be measured by looking at "Billboard" charts. To Curb's credit, there are twelve selections on this CD rather than the customary ten. Six of the selections are legitimate hits, taken from Conlee's work at MCA and 16th Avenue. The other six are not.The liner notes are credited to Dan Ovens. "John's distinctive, compelling music style is most apparent in this exceptional collection of his hits during the 80's:[sic] "Common Man," "In My Eyes," "I'm Only In It For Love," "As Long As I'm Rockin' With You," ... all in 1883, and all #1 gold records! Also featured are more chart winners and Conlee favorites: "Hit The Ground Runnin'," "Fellow Travelers," "Fire And Smoke," "River of Time," and more. It should be noted that "Fire and Smoke" was a hit for Earl Thomas Conley, not John Conlee and that, as you might guess, "Fire and Smoke" was not on the CD as Ovens claims. Hey Dan, Conlee and Conley are pronounced the same and the two men were contemporaries, but not the same person.
