Fantastic music,

The musical partnership between Yes-frontman Jon Anderson and larger-than-life Greek keyboardist and composer Vangelis Papathanassiou generated some truly outstanding works. This album does a very god job at compiling their best works, considering how difficult it is to find effective "Best of..." albums these days. All the music is fantastic, and I can only compare (maybe) to another musical collaboration that Jon Anderson had several years after this one, but with Kitaro, instead, which was beautifully captured in the album "Dream."

The only thing that would make this album better would've been to have more songs on it. It's great to have all of these songs on one CD, because I always loved it when Jon and Vangelis got together and recorded. I only wish that there could be another ablum some day.

When you say the names Jon Anderson and Vangelis Papathanassiou, most people tend to classify the discography of the two legendary artists by Progressive Rock and Electronic, Soundtrack or Film Score. This is for the most part true, but like many famous musicians of today, one genre category is never enough to satisfy their creative ambitions in entirety. Jon & Vangelis was the successive collaboration when celebrity Yes vocalist Jon Anderson teamed up with the master of electronic music, Vangelis Papathanassiou. Their partnership back in the 1980's produced some incredible melodies which remain ageless classics and a favorite selection for devoted aficionados of both artists, in addition to their individual solo projects which began their rise to stardom. The Best of Jon & Vangelis is an excellent album from the two artisans who joined forces during those earlier years, which today seem so long ago. The Best of Album in particular is one I would suggest to those less than familiar with their collaboration effort. The songs State Of Independence & I'll Find My Way Home have been two of my personal favorites for many years.

An Album That Merits Critical Acclaim,

It is clear that many musical artists keep a certain vision or style when composing their music. When two artists such and Jon and Vangelis combine their efforts, the best of both of their styles are sometimes brought out together to create brilliant and unique work. Such musical talent is experienced throught this whole album.
I find the track "He Is Sailing" as a good example of successful collaboration. It is almost essential to point out that Jon's voice virtually sounds magical as it is guided through Vangelis's musical fantasy. The musical assembledge is pleasing to the soul and deserves mass recognition. "A must have for Yes and Vangelis fans."

The music of Vangelis really gave Anderson the dimensions he needed after initially leaving Yes. The collaboration should have lasted longer. Italian Song is a breath of bliss and one of Jon's career peaks. But missing is Deborah, another piece of magic from this team's Private Collection.

Jon & Vangelis-The best radio play and hits from the first 3 lps. Short Stories,The Friends of Mr. Cairo,Private Music. These are from 1981-1984. This fits well in many catagories. New Age,Electronica,New Wave,Progressive Rock.Top 40 Pop.Experimental.
Great songs:I Hear You Now, He Is Sailing,Italian Song,I'll find My Way Home. the incredible danceable State Of Independence, and the phenomenal Friends of Mr.Cairo 11:35 long. I still play this album to this date. Every weekend along with OMD hits. Every song on this hits it. Jon's mystical fantasy semi-quasi-religious lyrics makes you think. I rarely use this word to discribe anything but It Is beautiful. What an unusual combination of artists. Who knew?
