Excellent - This is in memory of Valorie Jones, December 14, 2001
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
For those who don't know, Valorie Jones, the youngest of the Jones Girls passed away on Dec. 2. She was 45. But luckily, her contributions to her group's music will live on. This collection is wonderful, highlighting some of the most sophisticated girl group records ever made. The harmonies are tight, the instrumentation is on point. "You Gonna Make me Love Somebody Else" is funky burner, while the dramatic "Children of the Night" and "Nights Over Egypt" show their versatility. Their voices sound excellent placed into any context and this collection showcases a group with infinte talent, grace and beauty. They were a class act, no doubt. So here's to Valorie, may she rest in peace...

They're a melody!, November 5, 2004
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
Next to The Emotions and En Vogue, The Jones Girls are R&B's greatest vocal group. Their harmonies are so rich and immaculate that you can't help but fall in love with these women. Before Xscape (another fine R&B act) re-made their hit, WHO CAN I RUN TO?, I didn't even know this group ever existed, but thank the LORD I finally found them, 'cause my music library is that much greater for it. It's funny, once that song was a hit for a then-current group, oldies stations dusted off old Jones Girls records and began playing their tunes again (most notably, YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ME LOVE SOMEBODY ELSE, DANCE TURNED INTO A ROMANCE and the aforementioned, WHO CAN I RUN TO?), but there's so much more to their repertoire that not experienceing all their work firsthand feels like a shortchange. Thank you Jones Girls for being the incredible vocalists that you are. Your work is timeless and will live on forever. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Old School Girl Group Influences New Generation, September 5, 2000
This review is from: Best of (Audio CD)
I must say after listening to this collection of songs, one sees where groups of the 80s and 90s got their major inspiration from. This Jones Girls compilation showcases their hits from "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" to "Nights Over Egypt." Listening to these recordings displays some of the most talented ladies to ever record for Philly International. It also showcases the many talented songwriters of that time. Listening to "I Just Love The Man" is Gamble and Huff at their very best. This CD is a must have for those who are fans of 90s groups like SWV, EnVogue, and Xscape.
